My remodeling contractor will be returning to my house tomorrow, painting and replacing windows. Any precautions/cautions regarding powering down receiver and disconnecting sat feeds for about a week's time?. Unit is Hughes SD DVR40.
TIA.

1) Power off receiver (i.e. pull the plug quickly, cleanly - there is no power switch)
2) Disconnect all cables from the back
3) Move unit to safe place
Repeat steps in reverse order when re-installing.
If cable ends are left exposed put some masking tape over them so no paint gets on/in them.

Since you can't really "power off the receiver", I think goony means put it in Standby. Also ensure that it isn't recording anything before pulling the plug.

You can power down the receiver. Just pull the plug from the wall outlet.
Or, go and kill your power for the house at the Mains, then unplugged the unit from the wall.
