I have read the horror stories of people losing their HDMI cards. Today I lost mine!! The unit is less then a year old and I put in a couple of 250GB drives when I bought it. Should I bite the bullet and buy the new TiVo HD DVR or should I buy the new DirecTV DVR? Or should I just replace the daughter card on my current TiVo? Is it worth calling CS and telling them? Any opinions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian

When my HDMI cards went on each of my HR10s, I just switched to component cables. It meant completely rewiring my home theater, because I had to also find two free optical inputs on my AV receiver. However, everything looks and sounds great still, so if this is an option, you may want to try it.
I have the DirecTV protection plan and called about the dead HDMI card, but only told them about one. The CSR asked if component still worked, and I said yes, and she responded that they could not replace the receiver because I could still watch HD output via the component connection. If you have the protection plan and call up DirecTV, keep that in mind.
Also, if it's less than a year old: is it leased? If so, take out your hard drives and INSIST that DirecTV replace it.
Your last option is to try to get the HDMI card repaired. Do a search on "green screen" and you should find some links to repair companies.

Check the HDMI connection to make sure you didn't simply dislodge it. The connection can be extremely finnicky and it's easy to lose the signal via HDMI if you move the HDTivo.
If the HDMI card is definitely bad you can get it repaired for $100 by CCS Corporation (http://www.ccscorporation.net/PVR_T.htm). I've had about nine HDMI cards repaired by them and they do great work and have quick turnaround times. FYI - you can still use the HDTivo via component cables with the HDMI card removed.

INSIST ? What if they don't do it when you INSIST ? Blow up one if their satellites ?

Hmm. Might have to check my HDMI card part number. I run component and my case is always off. Could be an opportunity to upgrade for someone.
