View Full Version : Problems aligning 3LNB Dish

I just picked up a used HR10-250 Directivo HD receiver to go along with the HDTV I purchased a couple months back. I also got the old 3LNB dish to go with it and I can't get the thing pointed right to save my life.

As of right now, I can get good signals (90+) on all transponders on satellites B and C. But for some reason on satellite A, transponders 1 through 21 are not getting a signal, but 22 through 32 are coming in at 90+.

I don't think it's a wiring or LNB issue, because I previously had satellite A working on all transponders with the dish pointed altogether differently, but as you probably guessed, B and C didn't work at all.

For now, I've gone back to the alignment that gives me good reception on all transponders on Satellite A. This requires me to aim the dish like 10 degrees higher and 20 degrees further to the left than what's recommended (and what should receive signals from all 3 sats). At least the NBC and CBC New York Hi-Def feeds come in with just that satellite...but I'm missing out on the other 10 HD stations if I can't get this thing pointed right.

I guess my question is this...Since I'm getting a good signal on the high transponders on satellite A, can this even be a dish pointing issue? I thought it was an "all or nothing" thing when it came to signals from high/low, odd/even transponders (unless for wiring problems, which I'm sure is not my problem).

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

This sounds like a dish pointing problem. The main clue is that you're receiving only transponders 22-32 on SatA. These are the active tranponders on the 119-deg SatB satellite, not the SatA satellite.

Where did you get alignment settings? You didn't provide your zip code, but you can look them up here ....

Select "eliptical dish".

Aligning the 3LNB dish requires that the mast be perfectly plumb. Then set the tilt and elevation to what the receiver says for your zipcode. Finally, you set the azimuth and tweak from there. Tune to channels 490-494 to verify proper satellite reception.

Note, some TPs on 101 and 119 are spot beams and will have no or low values outside their beams.

I agree with litzdog, this sounds like a pointing problem. If you are replaceing a single LNB dish with the 3 LNB dish, you need to point to a different satellite. The single LNB dish points to 101, where the 3 LNB dish needs to point to 110. Your dish may need to be rotated slightly clockwise from the top.
