from the camera shots, it clear he wants revenge on his wife. i didn't expect the bomb to go off. i think this was the best episode of the season thus far, although i am disappointed thus far with the performance of this season, something isn't clicking, hopefully they still have time to correct things

I think that Logan is orchestrating the whole thing Jack entering the Russian embassy is very reminiscent of the China situation. Also the attack on Palmer had to be from some one in a very prominent position. Something tells me Logan's idea of redemption is nothing more than revenge against those he feels are responsible for ruining his life.

There's no way Jack vouches for Logan "because he can talk" to the russian better'n anyone. If anything, he'd have shot Logan just on GP. The rest of the episode was pretty good. But the whole Logan should talk to the russian premier because blah, blah, blah thing was lame. IF Logan had had some REAL reason for talking to him (i.e. blackmail) I'd buy into it. But he didn't. I hope Jack gets to shoot him next week.

Could someone less agnostic than myself explain the significance of the biblical verse Logan was reciting to himself in the mirror (which Jack soon afterwards saw highlighted in Logan's Bible)?

After watching tonight's 24, I looked at the Tivo description:
"President Palmer unites two unlikely and influential people; CTU copes with an unexpected weakness; Jack deals with a familiar foe."
The unexpected weakness at CTU is the fact that THE MOLE INSTALLED A MEN'S ROOM!
Bible references: either it's out of context and Logan has evil motives, OR he's entirely for redemption. The highlighted portion is the beginning of it: Psalm 40 is about coming out of the pit and doing God's will, and sacrificing yourself to God because YOU want to, not because GOD wants you to. At least that's how I read it. For the show, verse 12 stands out:
"For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me."
For those interested: Psalm 40 (http://bible1.crosswalk.com/OnlineStudyBible/bible.cgi?passage=ps+40&version=niv&showtools=0)
It also cross referenced Psalm 27:5:
"For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock."
and Psalm 31:8:
"You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place."

I'm enjoying this season, but it's just way too much like seasons before.
Jack has to infiltrate ANOTHER consulate???
Another nuclear bomb goes off near L.A.?
Another Palmer presidency is hijacked due to Palmer's being looked at as weak?
C'mon.

All I know is Jack's dad ran out of that warehouse and typed in Logan's number on that Treo awfully quickly... ;)
No worries, though, CTU is setting up a perimeter - and we all know how iron-clad those are! He'll never escape!
Help me recall from last season what Logan's involvement was with ex-President Palmer's assassination... The assassination was just a ploy to bring Jack out of hiding, no?

Help me recall from last season what Logan's involvement was with ex-President Palmer's assassination... The assassination was just a ploy to bring Jack out of hiding, no?
The Bluetooths, who we now know as Jack's Brother's Syndicate, orchestrated a plan to bring down russian terrorists, which was to give them 14 Cannisters of Centox Nerve Gas, and then bomb them or something. They got the cooperation of Logan and Walt somehow... but david Palmer found out, and HAD to talk to Martha Logan. they found out about palmer and decided to kill him, and to cover it up, they killed tony and michelle, and tried to kill chloe. these were the people that knew jack was still alive, i think, so this would bring jack out of hiding to avenge their deaths, and give them opportunity to frame jack for all of the murders. so it turns out, graem wanted jack dead.
i think that's fairly accurate...that's just part of it, there are a bunch of subplots... well thought out, don't you think? and they say last season was the best 24 yet...
on a current note:
I hate the morris/alcoholic/chloe being nosy story arc. this would be such a nonissue in real life. he would still be in the medical bay. he wasn't even debriefed. and he wouldn't touch a computer without a psych consult. so did he drink? in the bathroom? i couldn't tell... i know the bottle was almost empty, but was that from earlier? and he was thinking about it, but chloe interrupted him? that's what i got. she would've smelled alcohol if he was drinking. the whole thing is retarded. chloe calling his sponsor in the middle of a crisis, etc. lame
Why does wayne palmer have to talk 100x lower than everyone else!!!??? I can't hear a thing he says. the sad thing is, i don't care, and i don't rewind.
the number they are using 310-597-3781, i THINK they are using the same number for all the phone numbers they give out... they've used it for logan, in one of the first episodes where is showed up on a caller id, and chloe gave it out to morris' ex-sponsor as a call back number.
anyways, typical 24 stuff. exciting, but makes no sense.

Yep that makes two, as Marisol Nichols is also a Scientologist. I've often said that if I was an actor, I couldn't work with a Scientologist, knowing just how much of a warped, wacked-out cult it is (witness Tom Cruise). Take after take would be ruined by me going, "I'm sorry...you believe WHAT?!"
Aside from Jason Lee and Ethan Suplee on My Name Is Earl, another really good show has a Scientologist in the cast - Jason Dohring (he plays Logan on Veronica Mars). He was born into Scientology. Sad, sad, sad.

Why would it matter what someone's religion is if you are an actor? Scientology may have goofy beliefs but I am guessing it is offering people something that mainstream religions aren't. I'm not a big believer in fundamentalist interpretations of dianetics, the bible, etc. so it doesn't seem all that weird to me to do some daily rituals that might help calm someone or find peace, even if the "reasons" for it are totally absurd. If I found that weird then I'd not be able to work with most of my coworkers. I mean the hindus AND the christians.

YES. Why on earth do they think we care about Morris and Chloe? Quit showing contrived drama at CTU and show us the real stuff out in the field. IMO, we should only be seeing CTU when they are interacting with field agents (i.e. Jack). Otherwise, the scenes there are pretty much useless (until the next mole shows up, or the terrorists plant Centox Nerve Gas in the ventilation system).

I think this season is starting to prove that this show definitely needs MORE than Jack Bauer to be interesting and engaging. Think about it--each season prior to this had Jack who everyone loves, but also other characters that you were equally both interested in watching and invested in. Hell, in season one, David Palmer was just as integral to the show as Jack was.
In season two, Nina and Tony were big. We also had Mason. Season three still had David Palmer, and Sherry Palmer was always interesting. Season four had Heller for a good stretch among others. And season five, while quite a few died, still had Charles and Martha Logan who were amazing to watch.
You can maybe blame it on the writing and plot points of this season, but really, who in season six do you really like or care about? This is the first year where I cannot name a single character.

True, but the silver lining is, there is no Kim, no mountain lion, no murderous nanny employer, and no sleazy psychologist. Always look on the bright side.
Oh, and another thing, we are still less than half way through the season. Next week is hour twelve. Of course, the producers might want to cut the season down from twenty-four episodes and maybe CLAIM it is on a daylight savings time change Sunday and make it twenty-three instead. Anyway, there is still a long way to go.
Jack is pretty good, back in the thick of things considering only eleven hours ago he got off a plane from China as a prisoner. He does bounce back.
Why do I have such a difficult time with Morris? He can't really be a bad guy given that he was tortured BY the bad guy. The only way he could be a mole is if no one knew that it was him. He might have mentioned it while they were drilling holes in him. Since it is really unlikely he is a mole, why don't I trust him?

Seriously  I make it a point to avoid any and all previews for 24, so I don't appreciate reading them in the episode thread.
I thought this episode was pretty good. Interesting that Logan was still wearing his wedding ring. I found myself cheering for Tom Lennox to escape and stop the bomb, which is funny since just a few episodes ago I thought he was a weasel!
The going-ons at CTU are dull and I wouldn't mind that story moving along a little quicker.
I'm not at all surprised that Jack is working with Logan. If Jack can put aside his feelings to work with Nina, he can work with anyone, no matter what they did to him. I do find it funny that Jack is making googly eyes at his sister-in-law considering the last time in the US he was madly in love with Audrey.

As for Marilyn, it's been pretty strongly hinted that he hasn't had any contact with Graem's family for many years, but that back before that, there was something between Jack and Marilyn. I don't think it's that unbelievable that these feelings are coming back now that he has the chance to see her again.

Not to mention he is the father of her son.A popular opinion, but I'm not so sure. They might do it but the timelines do not work out: for Jack to be the dad we have to assume that he cheated on his own wife (when they already had a child) with his sister-in-law... obviously not unheard of but it doesn't seem very Jack-like behavior. Either that or they'll have to retroactively adjust Jack's marital situation.

Is it just me, or is the Chloe/Morris story the absolute worst on TV? How the heck do these two get ANY work done. EVERY single time they are assigned to do something, they start to and then they run off together, have a little inane pow-wow. And in this episode, Chloe was supposed to call the highway patrol and clear a corridor. She started to, and then ran after Morris again. The whole time she's telling him he needs to be focused and she wants to make sure he can do his job, yet she can't even do hers! I HATE IT!!!

They will probably go with Jack being the father, but I've mentioned in a previous thread that I had blond hair up until it started darkening around age 12-14 and both my parents have dark brown hair. My Dad had blond hair too as a kid. I still don't have hair nearly as dark as either of my parents. And besides, has parent/child casting always been 100% perfect when it comes to these things? I'm more preoccupied with how Jack and Graem avoided inheriting their father's huge nose. :D
But at the same time, when Jack made the above quoted remark, I really expected her to respond with "I think he looks just like you."

That'll work. ;)

Perhaps you missed the first episode of the series. IIRC, it started with Jack and Teri having a fight/argument/discussion about whether they should stay together or not and I seem to recall the reason was that he had been seeing someone else.
Yes, and for the nephew to be the son (which I suspect is where they're headed), infidelity would have to have been a pattern and not a one-time affair.
Which seems a little out of character for Jack, but then again, as the series has progressed just the affair with Nina has come to seem more and more out of character for Jack.

Yeah, what Rob and bruinfan said... that was Nina and it seemed to me like the marital troubles were relatively recent. Also, were Jack and his wife separated when he was seeing Nina? I'm not so sure about that... but I'm pretty sure Jack's wife didn't know about Nina when they separated.

When Jack remarked that Josh looked like his mom, I thought "No, he looks more like his dad". And I sure didn't mean Graem. :)
I'd be very surprised to find that Jack wasn't the father. As soon as I saw Josh I thought he looked a LOT like Kim and could probably pass as her brother in real life. :p
