In the "I'm Surprised They Lasted Until The End Of The Leg" Department...

Bye, bye, Kevin and Drew! Yipes. Not a good showing for a previously popular team.

Of course, I was ready to throw them off, and at least two other teams...

And Rob/Amber and Team Cha Cha went from last arriving back to first/second. They are certainly racing well, right now.

Half of these teams seem to keep going to new lows. I did like Kevin and Drew the first time around, but Drew was acting like such a lamer in this showing... I'm glad they're gone. David & Mary plus Charla & Mirna can go anytime now as well. Mary is very naive, especially considering how rude Charla & Mirna the first time they were in the race (and nothing has changed, obviously.) Dustin & Kandice didn't seem to like taking a dose of their own medicine when dealing with Charla & Mirna.

I'm pulling for Rob/Amber and the Beauty Queens!!

Thanks for saving me some typing.

:D

This time, I'm not giving a pass to Charla...she's just as annoying as Mirna, and that whole Weaver-esque "we're good people" routine was not any fun to watch.

And Mary? We quite frankly don't give a rip who you like or don't like, or who you'll be allies with or not. We will care when we hear Phil say those magic words "Dave and Mary, I'm sorry to tell you..."

I don't think I have ever been so sick of two teams this early in the race as I am of Charla/Mirna and Mary/David.

Mary/David are painful to watch. They have NO clue about anything.

Mirna is the biggest biatch to ever be in The Amazing Race. She even yelled at Charla for needing a step stool. And they were mad when they passed Mary/David and then Mary/David passed them right back.

Mirna/Schmirna and the Kentuckians can definitely go next. I'm pulling for team Cha Cha all the way.

I never saw the season with Mirna and Charla, but I have to say I want to see someone poke thier finger in their eyes or something just as entertaining would do. I'll be happy when they are not on the show anymore.

Mary and David are just as dumb this time around as they were the first time!

I know not everyone likes them, but I'm pulling for Rob/Amber and The Beauty Queens.

There had to be some speeding if the leading groups were all supposed to be doing 50 KPH. We know they passed Drew for driving too slow but to pass anyone else, they had to have been speeding. Why make a big deal of it if you're not going to enforce it? Last time they enforced the speeding penalty immediately didn't they? I can't imagine them doing it in the morning.

Oh, I forgot about the First Class Bag Removal Incident. Sheesh, Drew. I mean...when did it become your job to be the Bag Enforcer?

K&D were definitely not on their game in this race...racing-wise or personally.

I thought Mirna/Schmirna's response to the beauty queens was pretty stupid. She said they were just going to wait right there until the beauty queens passed them. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. If they're following you, they're behind you, right where you want them to be. If you stand around and wait for them to pass, they're ahead of you. Not where you want them to be. While it sucks they were just being followed, at least they were behind them. I couldn't believe it.

Even better: speak with a thick Russian accent!

Everything I had to say has already been said...I was SO hopeful that Phil would say "I'm sorry, we've decided to eliminate the last 3 teams on this leg of the race". That would have made the season all worthwhile, no matter what else happens!

Listening to Mirna and Schmirna whine about beauty made me almost puke in my mouth. I actually did go to the tv and poke them in the eyes, so thought it was funny that Sadara mentioned that earlier in this thread. ;)

GOoooooo Beauty Queens!

Dustin & Kandice didn't seem to like taking a dose of their own medicine when dealing with Charla & Mirna.
 How was that "taking a dose of their own medicine?" When did they ever do anything so bitchy?

Kevin & Drew were certainly not prepared to come back on the race, but I'd still have preferred to see them stick around at least until Schmirna and Kentucky are gone.

What was it Mary said at the mat? "Up until now in this race I've done nothing but help people?" HELLO!!! That's the problem!!! It's not a popularity contest, it's a race. Helping others is detrimental to your own interests!!!

As for the speeding thing, I think they pointed it out because it became an issue later when Drew clearly didn't understand the rules. I expected him to complain about it at the mat (and I'm sure he did), but I figured there was no need to show him being a poor sport at that point. The editing, especially the 47 times they showed the "50 Maxima" sign, told the story quite well.

For all of you whose first exposure to Drew & Kevin was in the past two episodes of TAR All-Stars, I really encourage to get the Season One DVDs and watch them. They're a totally different team. Nothing like the mopey people you're seeing now!

They were a lot of fun on S1. Lots of great one liners and sarcasm, and they very easily could have made it to the final 3 if they hadn't made a stupid mistake. They really were not anything like their S1 selves in this edition.

Oh, by the way, nobody mentioned the weird times they left the pit stop at the beginning of the episode. Phil didn't say it was 12 hours later, and it was clearly not 12 or 24 hours. They left the city of Quito in the first episode at 7:00 a.m. and had a 65 mile drive to Cotopaxi National Park, much of it on dirt roads. Rob & Amber got there first, tried the "search for crap in a field" detour, changed their minds, did the wrangle detour and were first at the pit stop. I would imagine that they finished the detour sometime between 9:00 am and Noon. All of the other teams arrived in broad daylight after them, even Jon Vito and Jill.

In this episode, Rob and Amber left the pit stop at 7:42 am. I wonder if they decided that the dirt roads would be too dangerous in the dark so they just held everyone until it was light. Or maybe they've decided to do away with letting people leave the pit stop in the middle of the night only to arrive at an airport and have to sit there for several hours before any flights leave. I'd be thrilled if they did away with the 12-hour thing and instead timed all the legs so that the first team to leave could get a possible travel advantage.

I believe that in the past they have held teams until it was light enough out to travel over questionable terrain, so it would make sense that they did it this time too.

It was obvious last week that Drew's heart wasn't in this race, so it was no surprise to see them go.

I'm rooting for ChaChaCha to win it all, not only are they good racers, but they're good to one another and the people they encounter.

My favorite line of the episode was when Oswald/Danny (I think) were driving through the Valley of the Dead and one of them was crying in the backseat (Oswald?). Then he said, "Man, I feel like such a bitch!"

Too funny!

I did love how Oswald/Danny and Rob/Amber arrived at the board meeting in the last two spots and still ended up in the first two spots. And not just becasue everyone had to wait for something to open or anything. They just plain outraced everyone else!

At one point Kevin mentioned something about his ailments. I've been wondering the same thing. They were so much fun in season 1 - crotchety, yes...but fun. This season Drew seems like a shell of a person. I really hope there is nothing seriously wrong with him, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that there is. :(

Yeah, my first reaction when I saw Drew was that he had cancer or something. Not just the shaved head, but he looked generally bad like something was taxing his system at all times.

I also wondered about the "Board Meeting" All the times they have had artificial hours of operation bunch ups and this was at 3 am? Then again, I suppose the company might not have wanted them to use the lobby and board room during the day.

Wow, I remember the feeling of utter hatred of Mirna and Schmirna from last time. They are just so irritatng. After yelling at Mirna about the stool, Schmirna whined and said her fingers were raw or something after dragging the thing about 20 feet. Then the whole thing with teh taxi on teh road. What idiots, especially considering that they did a fair amount of following last time as well. Heck, pretty much very team is in a position to follow someone at some point.

I wonder if they will asses some small penalty when they leave. There were a couple of teams that sped over the 50 km/h limit. (man, they had to go slow 40 is 25 mph and 50 is 31) However, I can't see it gaining them out of last when Drew and Kevin drove quite a distance at 40.

I actually applauded Mary when she made her comment at the end. FInally, she understands the meaning of a race. :D

I am suprised it took to page 2 for someone to comment on this. This is Rob being Rob. He enjoys getting people upset, especially if he can direct it at someone else. :) Besides, I don't think I have EVER seen Rob been mean to Amber, in fact compared to some of the "Couple" teams we have seen over the years, he has, arguably, the most respect for his partner.

Speaking of Amber, it was kind of funny watching Amber help a couple other teams, I told my wife "Amber hasn't learned much from Rob!"

brott
02-26-2007, 08:59 AM
It seemed to me that the 40 km/hr was the only limit that seemed "enforced" by TAR (despite the local speeding laws). Once they hit the main road again, it appeared that speeding was no longer restricted in the rules.

Drew simply did not understand the clue, and that was the point of the Producers mentioning the speed issue. If someone did speed during the restrictions, then they do deserve a time penalty, but I would expect that penalty to have been levied at the time they reached the mat.

It's been a while since I watched this episode so help me out here. Was Rob's comment made when they were at the airport and Eric jumped to the front when the new agent arrived? If so, I would have done the same as Rob. Just to be clear that the was the way everyone was going to play. I'm not saying that what Eric did was wrong (they are racing) but I agreed with Rob's assessment.

Also, as much as I liked (the first time) Kevin and Drew, I didn't want to see them go so soon. But, they weren't the same team this time.

I noticed that too - I'm thinking there must be something more to Drew's actions than just being grumpy; I'm afraid he might be having some health problems.

It's probably better that he doesn't have the stress of the race to contend with any longer.

Dustin and Kandace raced a clean leg. When they stopped behind the cab and Charla and Mirna, D&K were *ready* to split the cab driver's fee with the other team. Only after C&M went nutso and refused to negotiate did D&K leave. That's when C lost it and handed the driver her entire purse. What the heck?

I also think Rob has the right strategy. Stir the pot, and get people focused on you, not the race. Any time he has an issue with his partner, it's in *private*, a respect for one another the other teams don't share.

never during a TAR episode did I wish i was there with the teams to yell at them.

kevin / Drew : I feel bad for Kevin, as Drew was a crybaby since day 1. "I need to go get my hat" and "we have to stay 40" were priceless. if it hurt your back / leg/ shoulder/ knees & toes to drive.. WHY WERE YOU DRIVING 100 % of the time?!

Mirna / Shmirna : Please don't act in a way, or do a thing, and then comment when other teams do the exact same thing to you. Even act amazed! The [spanish accent]Take twenty dollar for food for you to eat, ok[/spanish accent] while crying was cringe worthy

Dave / mary: I fully expected them to come in last, and he it be non-elimination. i only want them to stick around because mary seems to have FINALLY learned this is a competition. It only took them a few times.

Rob / Amber: The only hatred i could throw at this team is that they have both made a lot in prize money, and money for many other things, and they still win the 1st place prizes.. They know how to play the game, and they do it well. The 'stir the pot' thing was right on, as the teams all care about where R&A are. They are a top 3 team for sure.

This year has a lot of teams not really knowing what is going on, but happy and content to follow each other in a line.. maybe after this week, you will pay attention to the directions.. and when they say "STAY LEFT" .. you will regard everyone going right as advantage rather then an oversight on your part.

Mirna & Shmirna go next .... *cross fingers* and i want to see which team 'cheating' or acting poorly towards them they blame

The funny thing about this scene was that I thought that R&A were doing a little good cop/bad cop routine. That way other teams think that R&A are a divided team (like that would happen).

How else can you explain how people you liked so much previously, you can now not stand.

I am well aware that I am smeeking, but it can't be said enough: Mirna and Schmirna and Dave and Murry have GOT to go - the sooner the better. Both of those teams are worse than nails on a chalkboard.

I hate Mirna even more this time than I did last time around. I was hoping that cab driver would just take all her money and drive off because she was so completely out of control, shrieking at him in that awful fake Spanish accent. I think she seriously has a screw loose.

And Charla, going on and on about morals? Please. The Beauty Queens were willing to negotiate with the cab driver until Mirna decided to become a raving lunatic.

I don't hate Dave and Murray but they are just dumb and awful racers. Why in the world did Mary SAY that word out loud when Kevin was standing right behind her??!!! That was so dumb. She was showing the answer to the guard and there was no reason to say it out loud, especially when she had no chance of pronouncing it correctly.

Drew obviously didn't have his heart in it, and his injuries and that altitude sickness were just too much for him. I agree that he looked very sickly, even more than just the altitude sickness.

Go Cha Cha Cha.

Rob and Amber have cleaned up on Survivor and TAR (twice), I don't think a higher level of competition is going to phase them. The hippies in particular wouldn't put a dent in their game.

If Drew didn't want to race then he should have stayed home and not showed up.

Instead, he took a spot away from somebody less whiny, like FLO.

Not sure how you could be competitive and not like their game. My wife think's Rob's a little full of himself, but then I don't know too many good competitors that aren't. Of course, CBS plays it up as much as possible, they aren't dumb.

So gald to see the team get eliminated, and agree that they could toss the other two as well.

never during a TAR episode did I wish i was there with the teams to yell at them.

kevin / Drew : I feel bad for Kevin, as Drew was a crybaby since day 1. "I need to go get my hat" and "we have to stay 40" were priceless. if it hurt your back / leg/ shoulder/ knees & toes to drive.. WHY WERE YOU DRIVING 100 % of the time?!

Kevin & Drew were on The Early Show this morning, and they actually touched on this. Kevin cannot drive stick, so Drew had to do all the driving. Who doesn't learn how to drive stick if they're going on TAR?

I did love how Oswald/Danny and Rob/Amber arrived at the board meeting in the last two spots and still ended up in the first two spots. And not just becasue everyone had to wait for something to open or anything. They just plain outraced everyone else!

Arrival/departure order at the board meeting didn't seem to matter at all since there was an airport bunch-up immediately after it.

Didn't I hear someone else on the show mention that they can't drive stick also? It was right at the beginning of the episode and I paused and said to my wife, "I can understand going on the race the first time and not knowing how to drive a stick since you usually get very little notice. But how do you go back a second time, still not knowing how?"

I was actually suprised that the copper mine company was not a "open at 7am bunch up"

I commented to the wife that "who cares about the delay.. they all need to wait until 7am to get in the offices anyway"

Whoops...

i would have also like to have seen that the challenge actually *be* a puzzle.. to get it wrong was to go to the wrong place, although within 10-30 miles of the 'real' place. TAR is just too afraid of mentally challenged racers and needs to keep spoon feeding everything..

I would much rather see people very far behind trying to catch up, with smart racers already at the pit stop. Sure, there will be a short season or 2, but then the smart racers will apply :)

Can't happen. We've talked about this a zillion times in various TAR threads over the years...the logistics will just not work, even behind the scenes, to support this.

And not many will watch a show where one "smart team", say, is two days ahead of everyone else. No suspense! :D

I'd actually agree with at least that list...but they're still trying to avoid teams getting too far of a lead, no matter what. Bunching is a necessary fact of life on this show, for the logistics reasons alone. It'll never be a real "race", no matter how smart the teams are.

As a huge fan of Kevin and Drew-I can definetely tell you something was wrong with Drew. That is so unlike how he was in Season One. He was always joking around and was nice to the other teams (except the Guidos). Like the other posters said-if this is your first experience with Kevin and Drew, don't get the wrong impression-something was definetely up.

That being said-Go Cha, Cha, Cha-I love their attitude.

Rob needs to realize the other teams aren't paying as much attention to him as he thinks they are.

Good God, Mirna and Shmirna are so fricking annoying. Why do they always talk English with an accent around foreigners? What a couple of annoying broads!

The not being able to drive a stick thing is mind boggling. Any driving experienced adult should be able to pick up driving a stick in a couple of days... There is really no excuse...

What a poor sport for the other guy though... regardless. I was really looking forward to seeing these nimrods again, but they went from beloved to be-loathed in short order.

As for Rob and Amber.. I do grin a little bit every time they finish first. If they did not have all the equalization points, it is likely they would have won the race the last time, because they consistently finished higher then the other teams I suspect and won more legs. I suspect this may happen the same way. Only problem is you just need to stick around each leg, not win. You only need to win the last leg. So even if you win every single leg and come in second in the last leg, you lose.

You'd think that the probem of having teams spaced very far apart would be fixed by having "smarter" teams but there is no doubt that Team Guido is a very smart team.

Still, though, at the end of TAR1, Guido was sooo far behind that it became laughable. They were stuck in Alaska -- more than a full day behind -- while the other two teams were racing to the finish line (I forget where).

So even with smart teams, there is a huge amount of luck on TAR. One or two missed flights, a wrong turn, a lost cab driver -- one team could easily be 24 hours behind another in just one leg. If it weren't for bunching, the race just wouldn't work b/c the production team can't be split up over several different continents with every team doing different challenges and racing to a different pit stop. Phil can't be at two mats at once.

I loved Mirna up on Charla's shoulders. We saw that the first time they were on and it cracks me up every time. I had to ff through their roadside shrillfest. My ears were bleeding.

It was interesting to see some internal bickering with Rob & Amber. She always went along with whatever he was doing, she was a complete non-entity the first time they raced. It's good to see that she is trying to grow a pair.

I don't know, if I'm in the boardroom and I see people leaving and not coming back, I would try to figure out where they were in the room before they left. It took Joyce way too long. I loved Uchenna's face when Joyce was saying that she usually has a strong attention to detail.

Dave & Mary can go with Mirna & Charla next time. i think Charla would be OK if she wasn't stuck with Mirna. I wish she could have traded her in for Zack.

I'm still rooting for Cha Cha Cha. They never were the type to worry about the other racers around them. They just ran their own race and enjoyed their surroundings.

People seem pretty good at following other cars - or following other teams from one airline counter to another on this show, but those powers of observation really failed Joyce and Ian during that boardroom challenge. They certainly weren't the last ones there, and spent all sorts of time walking around the table staring dumbfoundedly at the people in the "meeting". They should have been paying attention to their fellow racers - I don't think either of them even LOOKED at the pictures on the walls until everyone else was gone. Does anyone know if they even have a sequester on this show? I remember during Joyce and Uchena's season, my friend ran into them at a fast food place and even talked to them...begging them to tell her if they had won the race or not. I think it was down to about 5-or-so teams. Just watched the show last night, and didn't read the whole thread, but...

CBS posts the video of the newly eliminated racers arriving and joining the others at the "Elimination Station" (sequester house) in Acalpulco. It's about a 4 1/2 minute video of Kevin and Drew with John Vito and Jill.

http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race11/elimination.php

There's also a 30 min+ interview called the Finish Line. They talked about his health, and he said that the altitude sickness was really bad, but also, he said he had a pre-existing back and neck injury.

They also talk about the speed limit fiasco. Drew said they got "screamed at" the night before about speeding...said it was really beaten into them. He said they're always getting threats of time penalties, but no one ever gets one. Also, Drew did not think that 50 km/hr sign they showed over and over again was even on their road.

Interesting stuff...it's worth watching for TAR fans.

BTW, the Finish Line has a "Boss Button" that makes the window turn into a fake email message. :D

I'd have to add Will and Tara from Season 2 to this list of most annoying racers.

How many times did she say.... Will, you're an idiot!! Then, she would be hugging on one of the other guys, either Chris or Alex, I never could figure out which was which.

As for this season..... I don't mind David and Mary as much as other people. I think they are worth keeping just to hear some of Mary's dumb lines. I'd rather see Teri and Ian (boring), or Team Guido go before them. This is my first taste of Mirna and Schmirna, I must've missed that season first time around.

I'm still routing for Uchenna and Joyce, or Cha-Cha-Cha. They seem to be the most "real" and people I'd enjoy living next door to.

I'll let others answer with their picks (I'd have to run to the website to refresh my memory)...but the needle in the haystack challenges are a given! It would have to be torturous challenges and roadblocks for sure. Maybe add more "Fear-Factor" type of eating challenges as well. Bwaaahaaahaaa.
As long as we're picking challenges for annoying teams to do, I think the tomato throwing challenge last season was the funniest to watch. Kim just kept getting pelted by tomatoes and totally broke down and freaked out. Rob, on the other hand, got really pissed and started throwing the tomatoes back at the locals. I was dying on my couch.

Whoah-Will and Tara!! I almost forgot about them! I just remember the final footrace in San Francisco and Will freaking out!
