Dolby digital question

Hi

I have my Tivo connected to the TV through HDMI cable. I have the TV connected to the Home theater system through optical auto cable. I have my Audio settings set to Dolby Digital (not PCM). I was expecting that the Tivo bleeps will stop working, but I can still hear them.

Does that mean my setup is not compatible with DD? What am I doing wrong?

It sounds like your TV is passing the TiVo outout from HDMI through to the optical audio, but the TV probably doesn't have it's own built-in DD decoder. It's pretty common.

I was expecting that with DD enabled the Tivo would not try to alter the audio by adding bleeps. Also the TV doesn't need a DD decoder to pass it from the HDMI input to the optical output (I think).

I plug in an optical cable from my TV to my surround sound and I do not get dolby digital (no light). I plug in an optical from TiVo to my surround sound, I get dolby digital (light on).
