I have a Sony SVR-3000, currently on its 2nd hard drive after the original one failed. It has worked fine since we replaced the HD (maybe 2 years ago now) but this morning, it wouldn't turn on. I hit the power button on both the unit and the remote but got no response. The record light was lit and it was changing channels appropriately, so it doesn't seem like a hard drive problem - I just couldn't get it to turn on. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and the unit booted fine - lights came on, changed the channel and showed the correct program, record light came on. But it must have shut itself off again, because an hour later, I noticed it was off. Again, it would not turn on via the power buttons.
So I unplugged it and replugged it again, and again it came back up and started displaying and recording the correct show. This time I watched it carefully. About 2 minutes later, it shut off again - the record light was still on and it was still showing the program, but the power light and the blue light went off and I could no longer it the unit to respond to remote commands. That time, it turned back on using the power button on the unit. I now have it playing a recorded show, so I can see if it turns off in the middle of that or if it only does it while it's taping live TV. So far, it's been playing for about 10 minutes and it's fine.
I did a quick search but didn't see anything quite like this. Anyone familiar with this problem or know what is going on? I have to get it fixed before American Idol on Tuesday, LOL!
