Has anybody experienced reproducible reboots of a series 1 TiVo with Airnet resulting from the activation of an airport card in a MacBook Pro?
I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and Airport Extreme base station. The MacBook Pro and Airport Extreme are configured to run in the 5 GHz band for 802.11n. The TiVo is using 802.11b and communicating with my old "Snow" Airport base station. If/whenever I wake my MacBook Pro from sleep with the Airport card active OR if/when I reactivate the Airport card after deactivating it my TiVo will reboot when the MacBook Pro attaches to the network. This happens almost 100% of the time and it's driving my family nuts... although I think it's pretty funny sometimes. :p
I'm guessing it's an EMI issue with the power of the MacBook Airport antenna hammering the TiVo but am not sure if it's that or some other weird network problem. The two networks are adjacent (i.e. 192.169.x.32/27, 192.168.x.64/27) but are netmask'd to allow traffic to pass unrouted between them (i.e. 255.255.255.0). Each Airports provides DHCP services for their subnet and are statically addressed and connected to my router (192.168.x.1/27) which is connected to my cable modem.
I'm thinking of removing the Airnet card from the TiVo to see if the problem is strictly network related or not but would appreciate any other insights. It seems most people are working with Series 2 boxes now but my Series 1 was still running fine before this and I had no reason to upgrade. I'd appreciate hearing of similar problems with Series 2 if they exist as I'm now considering upgrading my TiVo to get away from the problem if it's related to the network. Got to find somebody with a wireless Series 2 that I can try to vaporize with my laptop! :)
Thanks,
Trevor
