First try, well 2nd actually (more on that later), put my tivo 40gb HDD into one USB 2.0 enclosure and a new 250 GB Seagate DB35.3 into another. Had removed the "master" designator from both. Booted laptop (IBM T42) on MFSTOOLS2 CD. Attached TIVO USB then Seagate USB.
to verify the TIVO was sda. used command:
MFSINFO /dev/sda
to do the deed:
without copying the recordings, and to use only the new HDD, used command:
backup -qf 9999 -so - /dev/sda | restore -s 128 -xzpi - /dev/sdb
took about 3 hours! First sat a long time at "Scanning source drive....wait a moment". Then counted through the MBs being copied - this took the most time. Then sat a long time at something like "cleaning up... wait a moment". Fiished with "this MFS partition (or something like that) can be expaned 3 more times.. and 282 hours available
Put the master designator back on the new HDD. Installed it, powered it up & it works fine. TIVO reports 220 hours. The next morning I had a message that I had been upgraded to the 6.2 software. I already was, and actually was on 6.3. TIVO is reporting 6.2. Keep you posted on this one..
My first try was to keep the recordings, but I needed my laptop back for work and it was going to take over 24 hours!! So I stopped the process and restarted it the next day as described here. This may be why I still had all the folders and titles in my List, but no associated recordings. Had to delete them all. Will let this bake for a while before I attempt to hack it.
