I recently purchased Roxio MyDVD Essentials 8. This program is supposed to support TiVo files. When I try to edit or burn files to a DVD, I get an error saying that it is not AC3 compatible. Has anyone else experienced the same problem? I tried contacting Roxio, and that was a waste of time. They won't reply to my help request.

Thanks,

Randy

I won't say that Roxio products are not good or that you won't eventually figure out how to make it work. However, as you have already experienced, getting support is problematic.

My advice would be:
1. Get a refund if you can, unless the money doesn't matter to you.
2. Look at this thread (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=337555), try out (and eventually purchase) VideoReDo. You will get more support on this forum and at the VideoReDo forum than you will ever get from Roxio.
3. The best source for Roxio support is their forum (http://forums.support.roxio.com/) BUT I don't even see a section for MyDVD Essentials 8.

As far as your specific problem, about all I could say is that AC3 refers to Dolby AC3 audio, which programs such as yours will try to put on a DVD for maximum DVD compatibility. Why the message is appearing, I haven't a clue -- you would probably have to give more details to get help, even from someone who actually uses your program. (I have a different Roxio product, which I rarely use for DVD production.)

It's too late to get a refund. When I use Roxio (the editing software is called My DVD), during the editing process there is no sound. Even if I choose not to edit it and just make a DVD from something I recorded, it will come up and say that it is not AC3 compliant. I know it has to do with Dolby Digital. I was just wondering if anyone else tried to use this software with similar problems.
Thanks for the input.

That sounds like the stripped down version usually given away for free as bundled software on a new PC. If so, they left AC3 support out on purpose. You need the full up version for that. The most likely reason for this is that they would have to pay a royalty to Dolby Labs if it was included, and decided to leave it out on software they essentially give away on new PCs and sell very cheaply otherwise.

I will try to give them another call. I bought the software online from Roxio a few months ago after reading that it supports TiVo. My thinking is that if it says it will support a product, it will fully support it. Not just half of it (video but not sound).

I tried the free trial version. I found that if the file is much over 2k in size it wouldn't record to a single layer disk but that could be because I didn't learn how to edit. I dunno.

OTOH I had about 6 extended time recording attempts using lower quality that should have recorded with 30 standard minutes or so to spare but failed. I hate wasting disks!

Since I also have a stand alone burner that works just fine I'm in no hurry to find a better program than Roxio but it would have been nice to just burn off of the PC.
