Installed new system board, and XP, now convert ends too soon

I had to install a new system board, and unfortunately re-install XP..

I re-installed Tivo Desktop, and re-entered my Plus key.. I can transfer files, manual and automatic.. but the convert, which worked perfectly before, now fails

I also have the converter wrapper, and can recreate the problem.
XP has all the updates installed, Direct X 9.0c is installed, I don't have aDVD player, but do have iTiunes and Quicktime installed and both pre/post convert the files play ok.

any ideas?

I travel again on Tuesday, and use the plane time to catch up on the tv I've missed..

Ok, more info.. maybe not a converter problem..

the original source file plays only up to the point where the convert fails..
so this really looks like a transfer or content problem..

maybe this is theTivo 8.1 release problem.. I hadn't transfered any files for a week. I know that the tivo was rebooted this week.. (actual problem was a different client firewall on my machine, eTrust instead of Symantec)..

this is starting to look like the already mentioned file transfer bug.

Files I recorded, transfered, and converted a few weeks ago, now fail to convert all the way, or play unconverted..

what is the fix for this?
