Hey Folkes! (I have no idea why my old P/W, is now my I/D name??) Anyway,

*Unless I misread it, When I first read about this Forum, it said it had nothing to do with TIVO, was not even on the same Site, and was Not Moderated. Then Today, I noticed a Post, "*** Forum RULES & GUIDELINES ***" - XXXXXXX, Forum Moderator!
The man listed a huge list of what we are "Allowed" to, and "Not Allowed" to speak about here!! It was so large I didn't even bother to read it!
Maybe we should form a Tivo Community at Yahoo, or anywhere else, where we can talk about whatever we want to freely, according to Our Constitutional Rights!
(Or is Tivo a part of National Security?)
But I never see Posts about "Hacking" or anything else illegal here. (Unless they are Deleted?) And even if I did, I would never understand them anyway!
The main problem here was told to me by someone at Humax. ( My Old Machine was made by them) He said and I quote, "If you knew all you could do with these Machines, we would be put Out of Business" Unquote!
I just feel if someone finds a way to Hook Up a Machine in a different way, we should be able to know about it! After all, we are not dismantling it or Reprogramming it, we are just playing with Wires! I know only because if you call Humax late at night, (They are Open 24 Hours, *Unlike Tivo who we Pay for Service) Some on Their Support Team will sometimes give little Tips that they are really told * Not to tell you about! But after all, I bought 2 Machines, and Pay Tivo $21 a Month for their TV Guide, but for me, Mostly for their "Expertise" (**Using A "What to say If" Handbook) as most answers I have ever received was to Pay $200.00, and Trade in your Old Unit for a Refurb! I can go out and Buy a Refurb. for Half that, and Keep my Old Machine! Plus eventhough you are Paying TIVO for Service, if you have a TIVO related question, and own a Humax, (Which Tivo even Sold to me) They won't even talk to you! All they say is call Humax, period! Click!
(I 1st found out about "Service Updates" from Humax when it took Hours to Download!)
Being I am no Wiz at this, 1 time I could not even get a correct answer to a question about how to Program the Remote! (The 3/4 Inch thick Handbook is Useless in most cases, or are Remote Questions Off Limits as well??) I am not looking to do anything illegal! I just want correct answers from *Qualified, *TIVO Owning Support People! And I want it *NOW, (After waiting 20 Mins. on Hold) Not Tomorrow or so when another Member (*But I Thank God for them anyway!) replies!
I'm Sorry, but this just isn't right! Maybe someday when a "SEEVO" or "MIVO"etc. creates some competition, maybe then we will finally get to know just exactly what we can actually do with these Machines!

I think you misunderstood. This forum is not moderated by TiVo, Inc. But it is moderated by its owner. If you don't like the rules here, there are other forums out there you can hunt down or create.

Constitutional rights of free speech don't apply to a privately owned forum. The owners of this forum are well within their rights to say what can and cannot be discussed here.

The moderators are pretty flexable about the rules. They'll let some conversation go on for quite a while that may be over the edge but I totally understand why they don't want hacking talked about.

Please remember that we are extremely fortuante to have guys like TiVoPony and TiVoJerry who actually work at TiVo who come in here with important information from time to time. So even though the website is not owned by TiVo we have to limit some of the conversation.

Many people freely talk about installing new hard drives and such and how they did it. Really that is hacking but nobody seems to get their spine bent out of shape about it.

Also this is THE best established forum for TiVo. As Mike said you can always start your own, but good luck getting people to follow you.

Sometimes you have to vent. I don't think TiVo is included in the super-secret black budget, but you never know. Some hacking talk is off limits, btw. But that's the way it is and not reading the rules doesn't change anything. Even if you create your own public forums as a symbol of free speech, you'll end up being a moderator due to profanity, spam, copyright issues and other unforeseen problems. Fact of life. There are lots of helpful people here, and if they aren't allowed to discuss a certain topic they'll often point you in the right direction.

No one seems to ever understand this simple idea...

So even though the website is not owned by TiVo we have to limit some of the conversation. Also, those folks are posting in their official capacity as TiVo employees. They would not be allowed to do this if TiVo considered this forum to be some sort of pirate site. I've heard that TiVo support will on occasion point people to this forum for information.

There is an undergound forum here where you can discuss hacking, to the degree it doesn't involve "theft" of the TiVo service (which boils down to making certain features of the DVR work without payment of the TiVo service fees, or fraudulently gaining service on a box), theft of pay TV services, or use of the TiVo hardware with pirated TV services, and extraction of recordings outside of methods sanctioned by TiVo.

If you want to hook your machine up a different way, go ahead. Just so lonk as it doesn't involved theft of services or content,(either TiVos or and TV provider), or extraction of video.
