Hello all,

I'm just wondering if there's some kind of workaround that will allow a dual-tuner standalone series 2 box to record an HD feed from a USB or regular OTA HD tuner?

Seems like it should be possible. I've searched the threads and don't see too much.

Thanks!

Short answer is not exactly. SA Tivo's do not have the required Digital tuner needed to record the HD signal nor the outputs that are needed to output an HD signal. HOWEVER If you can get the HD signal down-coverted and transcoded into a standard NTSC signal it will record that signal. Boxes are available that does this now but last I checked they still cost a couple of hundred dollars. These boxes will become more common and less expensive once the analog signals are shut down in Jan 2009. THIS IS NOT AN HD RECORDING it is a standard def analog NTSC recording just like you do now. the only difference is that the original source was digital HD.

Ah, I gotcha. Definitely not what I'm looking for. Going to have to keep saving for the series 3!

Thank you very much for the detailed info.
