FTP-Access to Tivo ? (A German wants to watch US-TV-shows)

Hello from Germany,
I love to watch US-TV-shows ...
and I want to convince a friend of mine in the US to get a Tivo for me ...
b u t how do I get access to the recorded shows so that I am able to download them (via FTP) to Germany ?

You are not permitted by the TiVo TOS to trasnfer recordigns directly from the DVR to outside the home network where it resides.
