Hi folks,

i'm going overseas for a temporary assignment.
I'd love to continue watching my favourite shows on TV while overseas and i've been looking into combining my Tivo with a slingbox.

now here is my question, the slingbox is a real-time viewing mechanism (okay so i'll use it to see already recorded shows off the TiVo) but in essence it's being re-broadcast from my home in the US. And slingbox artificially caps the quality to a fairly low resolution (i'm addicted to 1080i).

so, i'm thinking that it would be great if i can hookup a PC in the overseas location and use tivo2go to transfer the datafiles to a PC overseas from my Tivo in the US. That way i can continue to see my shows in HD overseas using the PC. Does this work?

I realize that the file transfers will be huge at full resolution but i have 300KB (almost 3Mbit) upload speed and i figure that i can do all the transfers to the PC during the night and day for so i can view the programs in the evening.

am i completely crazy for thinking that this might work?

should i abandon these plans and just do the low resolution sling instead?

thanks for your advice!

Just a thought - you might consider a third option...Slingbox Pro I believe will work with a HD source. HERE (http://us.slingmedia.com/page/slingboxpro.html)

correct, but based on what i've seen from their spec sheets the max remote resolution is 320x240. This is far too limited for what i'd like to do.

here is another thought. I've learned that series 2 tivo's has a per box web server interface that you can use to manually retrieve the files on the Tivo. If that's true then i can write a program that connects to the Tivo 2 and retrieves all content nightly and places them on a PC. Just a simple expect script should be trivial to write for this purpose.

thoughts?

With TTG I think you'll be stuck with low res for now. Series3 doesn't support TTG and Series2 doesn't support anything greater than SD.
