So did anyone else click on the TiVo menu option to get a coupon for Progresso Soup? I did, this morning, and got a chirpy little TiVo message screen telling me that the coupon would be e-mailed to me.

I checked my e-mail this evening, and sure enough, there was an e-mail with a link to click on to "get your coupon." I dutifully clicked, and was carried through to a site from Progresso's parent co., Betty Crocker, with a gloomy little message of its own:

The ProgressoŽ Soups Coupon Offer promotion has ended. Thank you for your participation. Please continue to visit BettyCrocker.com for more recipes and special offers from ProgressoŽ Soups.

TiVo posted the offer today, and by this evening it's expired? I know a coupon for a couple of cans of soup isn't a big deal (and, with some clicking around, there's another page that asks for signup information in exchange for a different coupon), but yanking your customers' chains just doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Ever. Hope TiVo drops the Betty Crocker promotions unless the co. can grow up and behave.

Is it possible that there were limited quantities? I would guess so, and it would explain the quick expiration if they ran out.

This sounds to me like a Communist plot, possibly being manipulated by extra-terrestrial invaders intent on planetary destruction. Of course, I don't buy much soup, so maybe it's just me.

I did and had the same disappointing results when I received my email yesterday morning.

This is the first I've noticed it. But yeah, I don't think it's been up there long. And bottom line: if it's still appearing on screens, the offer should be good. Period. Or have an expiration date on the screen message, as a CYA for folks whose TiVo doesn't phone home on a daily basis (when the message would be wiped ordinarily), or whose TiVo has one of those glitches where it decides not to phone home anymore until the user notices and has to reboot.

Once again, I know it's just a silly coupon. It's the lack of professionalism that bugs me.

I had my offer on my tivo for a couple of weeks. I just got the coupon yesterday in the email.

So the ad campaign kind of had the opposite effect.
Made some of those that clicked on the ad and requested more info, actually have a dislike for the company.
Hmm...not sure if that's what Tivo is hoping to promote when selling spots.

ps. Good one Stevel :)

I saw the ad (on my S3) several weeks (more like a month) ago. Got the email, printed the coupon and just got my 2 cans of soup (on sale, too - does that mean the coupon was worth less than not on sale ;) )

I think TiVo doesn't always get rid of those promotions in a timely manner - may have to do with how often updates are done, especially via modem. But I've seen ads for shows that have already aired, and so on.

Na, just a Campbells corporate spy mucking things up. :D

What was the coupon anyway? I sometimes get Progresso soup.

Apart from the showcase entry, I had it show up under a delete this program banner just today. So it's still pretty visible.

I had the "no soup for you!" response too.

Hey-- I got a second e-mail from TiVo today, w/a new link to the Betty Crocker site, and this time.... drum roll, please: a coupon!

Soup for me!

Yes, I guess they figured it out. I got the coupon today, too.
