How to transfer recorded items

I am a first time user here and I have a Philips DSR 708 DirecTV DVR. How do I transfer my recorded items from the DVR to free up space?

You don't.

Networking is only available for standalone tivos, not DirecTV combo boxes.

Depends on your priorities. If you just want to free up disk space, then you can watch and delete programs, or you can install a larger hard drive.

If your priority is to watch programs on your computer, then yes, you're screwed.
