Well, I'll be the guinea pig. I signed up and took the plunge.

Ordered two. Had to get to the $500 minimum order limit.

Shipping was $5 for both.

My strike price for a Series 3 is $1G delivered for two units. This beat it by $115.

So let's see if they ever arrive.

Scamalert Keyword: minimum order. No legit retailer requires you to spend enough to make it worth their while.

If you don't get them could you please sue on the Peoples Court? I record that one daily and would love to see the outcome. :)

I've read elsewhere they request your social security number as part of the checkout process. Scam!

Edit to add: it appears to be gone now.

Yes they did ask for SS number when signing up and that put up a major red flag in my mind.

Thanks for checking this out guys...tried to make you guys aware of a good deal. But you know what they say if its sounds too good...

I left that field blank, and I also lied about my age (my mother didn't raise no stupid children). They took the order, no problems.

The offer appears to still be valid. (http://www.gearxs-mall.us.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=79)

Left blank and still ordered. Why in the world would they need your SS#, or even ask for it!

Stupid question, but did they also ask you for the password to your email account as everyone in most of those reviews has stated?
Really, you went for this? Wow.

First, let me say that I simply do not have the words for this...
So, that being said, you need to start by changing all of your passwords for everything you have. Second, you need to call your bank, cradit card companies, etc, etc, etc...

I'm not going to put you down. I'm sorry this happened. Hope you don't suffer too badly. Good luck, but by all means protect yourself as much as possible.

No big deal.

Used a throwaway email address.
Lied about my birthdate.
Never entered my SS.
Used a one time use CC number.

Not all that worried really. The worst thing about it is having to wait around until the price on a S3 really does drop to $500 delivered ... sigh.

I bought two, and I'm paying by check. I'm having a little trouble figuring out how to address the envelope, though...

Make Payable To: GearXS-mall.us.com

Send To:
GearXS-mall , LLC.

Your order will not ship until we receive payment.

I guess the US postal service will be able to figure it out. :)

Filled out a 'fake' order (invalid email, fake name, address, etc) just to see the scam.

I love how the first page asks for DOB and the second for SS# (which also says REQUIRED)

I hope the 43 yr old George Glass at 28 Hickory Lane in Seattle doesn't get his identity stolen.

I will be sure to send him a birthday card this year.

Hmm, mine was a 5 year old Anna Banana at 1234 Xyz St. in Beverly Hills, 90210. I hope she enjoys the 2 S3 TiVos I sent her.

Interestingly enough they also have a logo on their page that claims they are 'BBBonline' verified for reliability.

But if you click it it takes you to (what I can only assume is) the page on the BBBonline.ORG website for a totally different company.

What a scam.

Also I read the resellerratings reviews above, and those seem to be for gearxs.com which could be the same thing, but I think might be different since, at least some of their reviewers have actually gotten the item they ordered, and no-one that I saw claimed Identity theft.

This scam site is probably trying to spoof them, actually copying a site with a bad rep might let them get away with it longer because 'customer' expectations might lower?

Who knows.

Actually, no it takes you to their own fake BBBOnline verification page: http://www.gearxs-mall.us.com/bbb.php

Obviously, they were nowhere to be found on the real BBBOnline page.

Wonder if the BBB would like to know that their site was being mimicked for the purpose of a scam.

Firefox, or some plugin must be saving me, because I end up on the real BBB site, and not the page you linked to. The company name on the site I get sent to is
"HIRE-SAFE background screening"

Looks like they made theirs by copying the HTML and editing the name.

I notified the BBBonline.org website maintainers already.

BBB is paid membership so who is in it... or not in it has no standing on reliability. Having said that if someone is paying for that privilege - checking their standing (number of unresolved complaints) is worthwhile.

And anyone who fakes their membership it is probably less than reliable. :D

Indeed I would have to agree. Certainly anyone who spoofs a BBB profile to do so - is probably not extremely trustworthy

While the BBB membership itself is not a show of reliability it is certainly worthwhile to take a look at the member and see if they have had complaints and if so how many.

Ok first try and do a whois, this will check to see who owns the domain it returns saying the it's now a correctly formatted. Next look at the domain uscom that leads us to a site called centralnic slash names slash domains sorry I can't post links yet.

On this site you can get your own yournameuscom domain. So this is an anonymous domain name.

Second look to see if the site is SSL protected you'll notice that it is not. Besides encryption the transaction SSL will send you an error if the site has not been "Verified" by a Certificate Authority like Verisign. No real eCommerce site would process an order without SSL!

So the site is a fake!
