DirecTV screensaver make channel change fail

Standalone TiVo, newer DirecTV reciever, IR control. Most recordings work fine, but I have discovered that if the DirecTV screensaver comes on, the first digit of the IR channel change is dropped. The FAQ notes a resolution for changing to channels that are two digit (using 3-digit channels e.g. 024 instead of 24) but that won't help if I am chaning to channel 298. Perhaps I should record something at least 3 times a day spread out throught the day so the screensaver doesn't come on? The Directv reciever has not screensaver options.

Keeping suggestions turned on might help (instead of scheduling multiple recordings).

Otherwise I think you have to get on DirecTV's case about creating an option to control the screensaver (or fix the firmware so it doesn't drop the 1st digit when in screensaver mode).
