So....I want to be more excited about the return of LOST tomorrow. But is anyone else kinda finding it hard to get excited about it? I'm not meaning this to be a LOST bashing thread by any means. I just feel like its been a while since the cliffhanger in November and I feel disconnected from it. So I've gone to ABC.com to watch the first six episodes this season again to get caught up. So far I'm on the third episode of the season and I'm still not excited yet.
Is anyone else trying to get excited for the mid-season premire or do you find yourself already hyped up???

Reviews are saying its worth the wait, but since I have 4 unwatched Eps backed up and have found interests in other programs I will likley just read the recaps at this point. I think ABC messed up thinking pent up demand is what the audience wanted IMO.

I'm right there with you. I want to be more excited. Lost, during Season 1, was far and away my favorite show. Although my interest has waned somewhat this season, I'll still keep watching. I wish Lost had pulled a "24" and just started later in the year in order to have an uninterrupted run straight through. That, to me, would have been preferable to the split season idea they came up with. I don't fault them for trying, though, and the split season certainly is an improvement upon the Season 2 repeat/hiatus mess.

I haven't even missed it.
Wouldn't be upset at all if the TiVo doesn't record it.
Yes, I'll watch it, but not with the enthusiasm of last year.

I think the grumpy and dull Others brought the show down a few notches. Most of the mystery, creepiness, and suspense of the first two seasons are just memories now. I'm hoping the show will find its way back to that. Maybe have all of the Others die from some virus caught from the Losties. :D
Is tomorrow's episode new and different, or is it a recap? From the episode title it sounded recapish.

I just don't get that. That's how most TV shows air. What makes "Lost" so different?

I believe there is a recap show followed by a new episode.

Thanks. I will have to double-check and make sure both are set to record. I only remember seeing the recap in my ToDo list.

There is a recap at 8PM Central, followed by the new episode at 9PM Central. Lost has been moved to an hour later than last year.
I understand what you mean about "not feeling the excitement". But I think it will return once you start watching. I get the same way about any show that goes on hiatus. I remember when Prison Break finally returned a few weeks ago. One of my favorite shows, and I just wasn't "up" for it. In fact, I wasn't even sure I remembered where they had left off, or if I would remember anything. But as soon as it started, the thrill was back.
I tend to believe LOST will have that same reaction with me. BUT... having said all that, this season has not been as sharp as the first years. I'm hoping it picks up!

None of the shows I watch take a three month hiatus after only 6 new episodes. A month or six weeks or something maybe, but usually the only 3 month hiatus is the one taken during summer.

I would have removed it from my SP if the wife didn't want to keep watching. I've moved on now that they are starting to focus on characters I don't give a Jack about. I want to see more Hurley and Charlie action, with some Sayid and Locke thrown in for good measure. Kate, Jack, and Sawyer are all boring. And they've killed off other characters I wanted to see, like Ecko and Hurley's almost girlfriend.
I'll watch, but I'm definitely not excited. It's sad because two years ago, this was my favorite show on television. I really started to lose interest once they added Michelle Rodriguez, at that point I lost all faith in the show and they haven't done anything to win me back.

That's how it is for this season, but he was complaining about season 2. I still don't understand what the problem was. Most shows air reruns and quite a few have multi-week breaks. I don't understand why it was a problem for Lost to air like that.

I didn't understand all the complaints last year either. As far as I'm concerned, it was a normal run. It had the normal 20-something episodes most shows have. It's not like they made any less episodes. The only thing different is they occasionally put in those recap episodes.

From the beginning we knew nothing about the losties, the tailes, the island, the others...every episode was fresh and new. Every episode was like drinking a cold glass of water after a days walk through the desert. Even after we finished drinking we were still thirsty because every episode was a question without an answer. Or it was an answer that spawned 3 more questions.
But now we have an accumulation of knowledge. They couldn't keep leading us around by the nose without satisfying some of our curiosities because they would have frustrated the viewers too much. So they scaled the story down a bit and concentrated on Sawyer, Kate, Jack and the Others. They took a risk by giving human faces and motivations to some of what is happening on the island. But there is soooooooo much we still do not know. In some areas of the show we don't know enough to even ask the right questions.
I am excited. This is a nice shot of adrenaline injected into the rest of my tv season. So many shows disappoint me because they don't even try something different or new. The only time Lost has disappointed me is when they fail to live up to their normally high standards and only deliver a very good show instead of a great one.
I cannot wait until tomorrow night.

I totally feel this way. I think the long layoff is backfiring big time. I used to get all excited to where I would even be sure to watch it live. Now I'm kind of like "ehh, big deal".
So much has happened since I watched the finale, it's hard to get excited.
I'll watch it, but it doesn't have the same must watch feel it used to.

For me, the difference is that Lost is episodic. Reruns and multi-week breaks are more bearable for me for shows with standalone episodes. On an episodic show, stops and starts can really hurt the narrative pace. YMMV.

They took a risk by giving human faces and motivations to some of what is happening on the island.I just think the Others are lame, just really boring and uninteresting. For me they ruined the first part of this season. With better writing and casting they could have introduced the Others and kept my interest.

Well, I just finished watching the first six episodes. It does seem the reason I'm not so excited about it is because of them focusing so much on Jack, Sawyer and Kate. I just don't care about Kate and Sawyer as a couple. I like their individual back stories and such but I could care less if Kate decides to be with Sawyer or Jack. And it sucks that they killed of Mr. Eko, but I hear the actor wanted to start some kind of project of his own, so that's good for him.
One thing I hope they address soon is how Locke got into that wheelchair.

From the official Lost video podcast (new episode this week)
We will learn how Locke got into the wheelchair, and where Jack got his tattoos, this season.

It seems like every TV show, no matter how great the concept and how good the show is initially, just eventually devolves into a soap opera. The whole "love triangle" thing was and is boring. I really hope that was just a detour.

I feel the same way, could care less if it never comes back. I believe this show has no real end game and they just keep giving us flashbacks to appease us. This show has lost any focus it might have had, a long time ago. They should call it Recap.

Standalone shows are still episodic. You mean serialized.
I can't believe people bitch about the no reruns policy this year. Damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess. When they start in January of 08 and run straight through, people are going to bitch about that too. I far prefer this format, even if they lied about no cliffhanger at the end of 6.

Yeah I really hate the soap opera that My Name Is Earl has become.

You're right - serialized is the word I was looking for. I didn't mean to bitch about the split season, though: like I said in my post, I think it is an improvement over what came before. I don't fault them for doing it and I appreciate that they recognized the problem and took steps to address it. The solution they came up with actually may be the best compromise, it is just not what I personally would consider to be ideal for me as a viewer. You are right, though - some people no doubt would still complain if they took it a step further and went the 24 route. Not me, though. I think we just have different preferences - nothing wrong with that.

If they're going to do a split season, I don't see why they can't split it more evenly...12 episodes in the fall and another 12 in the spring.
