Hi,
I have been having way too much fun for one person :)
I am trying to make DVD's from television shows that I have saved on my Tivo box. I have Tivo desktop 2.3a on my Windows XP/SP2 computer. I have had no seeming difficulty transferring programs from my Tivo box to my computer. Oh, I forgot to mention that I have connected my Tivo box via ethernet to my PC. The problems started , as I imagine they do for everyone, when I tried to play one of the files I transferred. That's when I found out about decoders. I downloaded the SONIC MyDVD deluxe suite [which included their decoder and an editor]. That's when I found out that most editing programs don't read Tivo file types. After some looking around, I found Direct Show Dump. The world seemed good. I could transfer a file, copy the file from Tivo format to Mpeg format, edit it and then burn to disk. And I did this a couple of times. But the SONIC software was just too unstable for me [hung up at various points and always finished with three errors], so I deleted it and replaced it with AVS Tools. This seemed to work better for a time. Then the problems with Direct Show Dump began. I had gotten the dreaded "Error. AsyncReader:: SyncRead Failed" before but when I simply tried again, the program would compleat successfully. Now, I cannot get through ANY file that I have transferred. The program seems to fail at various points in the copying. It even fails with a file that it has successfully read some time earlier. I tried to play one of the files and WMP froze up. That's when I found that when I deleted the SONIC software from my computer, I also deleted their decoder. I bought [and installed] a copy of their decoder and then WMF could play the program. Ah, ha I thought that is the problem with Direct Dump, too. Unfortunately no; it still fails. I am writing this note in hopes that someone else has traveled down this path and can tell me what lies ahead.
Help.

If you want to edit .tivo files get a copy of VideoReDo. It can edit them directly and either save them back to .tivo files, complete with guide data, or same them to VOB files which you can use in programs such as DVDStyler for authoring to DVDs.

While the forum does prohibit the discussion of .tivo conversion, I believe the intent of that prohibition is not to keep people from reasonable personal use of their own tivo files. Judging from the free discussion of methods (other than the official Tivo sanctioned one) for burning DVDs and otherwise transcoding tivo video for personal use, I'd say your question is safe.

That being said, I have never had any trouble with DSD. Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling it since you changed editing platforms?
