I just bought an S3. I'm very happy with it... except for one thing: the front display doesn't work anymore. It's turned on, in "message and settings, display". I'm toying with the idea of sending it back for repair, or a swap. But, I just got my cable cards installed last night, and am thoroughly enjoying the HD experience.

Should I just "deal with it", and accept that the front display doesn't work. Or, should I send it back?? I miss the clock, and I think I'm missing out on other things that are displayed.

Has anyone else had issues with the front dispays not working?? It'd be nice if it was a simple fix.

sorry...

what's tivo's return policy? do they send you one, and then let you send the old one back? would the cable company have to come out and do the install of cable cards again?

Has anyone else had issues with the front dispays not working??No, not me. The display works great. My only issue is you can't see it from across the room like the cable box. Should I just "deal with it", and accept that the front display doesn't work.Only if you want something that is broken. Myself, I would get another box. It'd be nice if it was a simple fix.Have you tried to reboot?

Yup. Tried a reboot. Made sure all the settings were turned on.

I bought it from PCSuperdeals. Just sent them an email requesting replacement unit. Hopefully it'll be a quick 'n easy exchange.

I had the same problem with a unit I purchased at Weaknees. After all the standard troubleshooting they replaced it without question. It has worked fine ever since.

I had the clock disappear on me last night - I tried rebooting throug the menu - no joy. I called tivo support today and after my first ever surly customer support experience (he asked me to shake the tivo to see if the clock would start working, and I objected due to the spinning hard drives - and then he got surly) it started working again. He had me unplug it without a graceful shutdown and after 15 second plug it back in. The first time the clock came back, but it put me into a reboot cycle (it would power up, just to the point past the thx logo and then start rebooting again - the customer service guy blamed it on me not pluging the cord back in securely- even though I had). But we hard powercycled it again and this time it booted cleanly and the clock was working. I'm crossing my fingers that it performs in a stable fashion from here on out.

I just got my replacement Series 3. Had to jump through hoops to transfer the defective Series 3 to the new one though. If you swap Series 3 cable cards to another box, you'll need to call the cable company to let them know what the new host-id is. I also had to call Tivo to transfer my lifetime from the defective tivo to the new one. Kind of a pain... but... at least now I have a new tivo, with a functional front LED.

I did notice something different about the new series3 though. When in live-tv mode, the tivo sound effects don't seem to work. (no bleeps when you do the 30-second skip). The effects only seem to work when in the tivo menus. But... that doen's seem to bother me as much as not having the front LED. I'm keeping this one.

The screen is an OLED which stands for Organic light-emitting diode. Try giving it some food, it's probably hungry. :D

I can't believe any support agent would recommend shaking your TiVo.

That is normal. No tivo sounds when playing back Dolby Digital sound.
