NEWB Question: Series 2 upgrade from 6.2 to 7.x

I'm excited about the features I've seen available in the newer software version but am sketchy about whether my machine can handle it. I have a DirecTV Series 2 DVR and was wondring if I could upgrade to 7x software. Is this possible? Seems like I can but the posts I've seen are vague. What info is needed to determine this capapbilty?

Directv tivos will not support 7.x software. Directv will probably never upgrade its software for any of the features that standalones have.

However, you can hack your tivo for networking features,etc. quite easily. The easiest method available right now, is the zipper. Check here : http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=265929

I saw a project called galleon tv that really looked cool but it requires version 7.x. I already did the hack you suggested and it works famously. Very impressed.
