I am getting some strange behavior from my HDTivo->Denon4306->Syntax Olevia 42" LCD TV now, which was just recently repaired (new system board, latest firmware); didn't happen before. I think it's a problem with the Denon, or how the Denon communicates with the TV, but figured I should post, as the problem only exists with the HD Tivo.

I have an HD Tivo and Playstation 3, both HDMI in to the 4306. The PS3 input works fine. The HD Tivo input however, shows a normal image for a half second then becomes "pink" almost as if, in a VGA monitor, one of the cables gets bent.

Here's what I know:

Direct HDTivo -> Syntax is OK.

Tivo->4306->Syntax:

Tried all 3 HDMI inputs, still same (pinkish) Tried 2 different HDMI cables Tivo to 4306, still same Tried both HDMI inputs on TV, same.

What does seem to 'cure' the problem is if I go to Tivo settings and switch the resolution - you can set it to native, 1020i fixed or hybrid, 720p fixed or hybrid. When I set it to a resolution (regardless of whether its Native or 1020i fixed), the problem goes away.

It comes back if I switch to another input (e.g. my PS3) then back to the HDTivo.

Sometimes, I can cure the problem when I go to the TiVo UI screen (which I believe forces a resolution change).

So I believe it's anomalous behavior on the receiver interpreting the HDMI signal from the HD TIVO since the PS3 source works fine, and HDTivo direct to Syntax works fine. There seems to be a problem locking in the signal somehow.

I tend to blame the receiver in this case when the Tivo works fine with the TV directly. BUT, this behavior wasn't there with the prior TV system board.

Does this sound at all familiar?

Sound exactly like a problem I just encountered.

So far there have been no answers, but there is certainly some problem with HDMI switching receivers and newer panel--or in your case--a new board.

Go directly to the panel and it should be fine--or use component...

This indicates a mismatch between what the display is advertising as its capability about what colorspace it can handle from what it can really handle.
He may have had the EDID board in the display replaced and the AV receiver is not conveying the EDID correctly to TiVo.
Please have him try connecting the S3 directly to the display (without the AV receiver) and see whether it goes away.

It does go away with a direct connection. No word from Denon. They thought it was a TiVo problem initially.

Trip--I've got the answer from the receiver thread on the AVS forum from a gentleman with over 3k posts...

The HDMI switching receiver is looking for a different colorspace format.

There is the component format (y/cb/cr) and RGB. The receiver NEEDS RGB to output properly.

I confirmed this because I was getting pink screen in my new PS3. But the PS3 allows you to change the output format. Once changed to RGB, the pink problem was solved.

Tivo has no such ability to change colorspace output. So I am no longer using the receiver to do the switching and instead using a Geffen HDMI switcher direct to the panel and directing the sound through the receiver...

If you can find a way to change colorspace output to RGB from the Tivo then you can use the receiver for switching...

My Denon can output both y/cb/cr and RGB - but the TiVo OUT has to be RGB?

My receiver is related to your's--it's a Marantz--which is a sister to Denon.

The receiver is looking for a RGB signal as anything else is misinterprated.

The only sure way I know to check is to get a Playstation 3 and check by changing output methods in the setup menu...

My Denon has no problem with y/cb/cr or RGB. All my HD TiVos output that in 4:2:2.
And the PS3 I have will output y/cb/cr 4:4:4 for movies and RGB for everything else I believe.

Some of us are having this pink tint screen problem.

My particular problem was fixed by changing colorspace--but I cannot do so for my S3.

Does anyone know a way to change the setting for the Tivo?
