I'm sure you've seen the auctions on eBay for Series 1 machines without hard drive.
I still have the original small drive from one of my machines (before it got upgraded).
Would I be able to get one of those "no hard drive" machines, just put the small drive into it, and have it start working right away?
I seem to recall someone saying the drive from one machine won't work in another, even if the same model. Identifies only with the board of its own machine, or something.
Seemed strange, tho', since you can get a drive with image from Weaknees (or elsewhere) and just put it in without it ever having been in your machine before, and BOOM!, it works.
What's the general consensus?
Could I take the smaller drive that was in one of my Series 1s and just put it into a S1 that has no hard drive, and have it start working, or will that not make it a functional TiVo?
