View Full Version : Thinking about selling off a couple of Lifetime Series 1 Tivos

Since I bought an HDTV about a year ago, I find I practically never access the two Tivos I have connected to my system downstairs. I use the Bright House DVR almost exclusively because I'm spoiled by High Definition. I have another Tivo upstairs that I mostly use to watch reruns upstairs before going to bed but I'm using it less and less these days as well.

I mentioned this to a friend the other day and her eyes got wide because I think she wants a Tivo at home. I really have no idea what a fair price would be now.

I understand that right now is probably a good time to sell one as the Lifetime service can be transfered to a Series 3.

All three have upgraded hard drives and memory. I just looked at them and they report the following capacities: basic quality 164, 103, and 141 hours.

I might regret selling one but I ought to consider it since they are getting so little use and now might be the best time. I might replace one with an Apple TV.

Isn't the VIP transfer option over? You should have done this earlier.

I heard it was until March something.

I heard it was until March something. You have until March to do the transfer, but only if you bought the S3 by Jan 31. They don't care when you bought the S1/S2 machine with the lifetime.

Are they really asking for proof of purchase? My guess is they will happily scarf up the $199 for anybody who wants to pay before 3/2.

These have been going for $250-$300 on eBay depending on condition. Because of the transfer possibility the larger hard drives are not bring much of a premium unless the new owner is not looking to transfer.

I paid $275 for a lifetimed unit to transfer to my S3. The hardware usually isn't worth a whole lot.

I ebay'd 2 Lifetime subscriptions (not boxes) right before the deadline. 1 fetched $202.50 and the other fetched $249. I now have both boxes with 1 yr. service. Going to loan 1 to a friend and the other is still in limbo.

Not bad since I paid less than that for Lifetime on both units "back in the day."
