Comcast Adds Versus/Golf Channel HD
The channel will show hockey and golf tournaments.

Washington, D.C. (January 16, 2007) -- As expected, Comcast has added a split HDTV channel of Versus and the Golf Channel in select cities.

The channel features National Hockey League broadcasts, boxing and other sports from Versus and PGA tournament action from the Golf Channel. Versus programming will air at night while the Golf Channel will air during the day.

Comcast added the channel in Philadelphia, Chicago and a few other markets during the past week.

Comcast owns both The Golf Channel and Versus. But DIRECTV is expected to carry the new split HD channel at some point.

Comcast launched the channel in part because In Demand on January 1 took INHD 2 off the air. Cable operators had used INHD 2 to broadcast NHL action and other sporting events.
