My old TiVo is previously hacked and used to make it's daily call via the network card. I've now given it to my friend who doen't have broadband and before I sent it I cleared everything and thought she could set it up how she liked by using the Guided Setup again.
Problem is that during the guided setup it needs to make a call to TiVo and it's still trying to do so via the network card (,#401) :(
Is there any way to return it to using the modem - simply?
Or do I need to get the hard disk out and get her to send it back to me and restore and old (pre-networked) image to it. She is in Ireland and I'm not.
Any help recieved with thanks.

Unfortunately, now that GS has been started, the only way to change it back to dial-up is, as far as I know, to pull the drive. However, although you may have to re-image it, you might be able to get away with just re-running 'nic_config_tivo' and re-setting to dial-up from there.
I'm sure someone will confirm (or correct!) before too long :)

Sounds about right to me. If for some reason you cannot run nic_config_tivo though until GS has completed would it be possible for her to take it round to sombody's house that has broadband access so that the GS can continue? Once that has complete the Nic_config_tivo can be run from there.

If someone could connect a computer to the network card directly in the Tivo using a cross over cable or via a router using an ordinary cable they could probably manage to run nic_config_tivo at the Telnet prompt, which would probably still be available despite being stuck in Guided Setup. This would allow you to change the dialling to Phone.
If however you have pulled the network card from the machine you are totally stuffed and will have to pull the drive to sort things out.

What size is the drive?
If it's less than 160gb then you could try the "emergency reinstall" kickstart option. (http://alt.org/wiki/index.php/TivoDiagnostics) - although there is of course a chance that might just render the TiVo completely useless if there isn't a valid OS on the alternate partition.
Do you have a spare drive you could configure and send her?

Forgot about the kickstart restore option. That does sound hopeful depending on the hard drive size.
As to sending another hard drive through in the post to fit I have a feeling it would rather depend on the lady in question and their age and level of comfort with technical matters.
