Well I finally bought one! Spent 689$ w/ HDMI cable. So lets see if I'll be happy with my investment!
I have a couple of questions though.
1. Lets say the Hard Drive is full and I dont want to get a bigger hard drive. Is there anyway to download a file (let it be encrypted or whatever) and save it to my pc's hdd for storage. Then whenever I want to watch, I can just import it to the Tivo? (probably not but figured I ask anyway).
2. Telnet access to control the Tivo? Basic Remote commands??
3. Is the online scheduleing free or does it cost extra (other than the basic subscription fee)??
Thanks!

No transfers -- yet.
Don't know about number two.
Online scheduling is part of your subscription and works very well.

Don't S3s come with an HDMI cable in the box? I know mine did. Are people finding that the stock cable is bad, and are opting for other cables??

Don't S3s come with an HDMI cable in the box?Yes they do. Also component, s-video and composite.
One thing they don't include is HDMI-to-DVI cables, which did come with the HR10-250.

The HDMi cables are very inexpensive. Just get one from Monoprice. The prices are low and the quality is high. Mine work with resolutions up to 1080P and my longest HDMi cables are 15 feet. I'm using around 15 Monoprice HDMI cables with no problems.

The one that stumped me when I first got my S3 was how to switch Tuners when watching TV. Hint "Live TV"

It's my understanding digital signals don't care if your cable is cheapie or an overpriced Monster. The signal either goes through or it doesn't. I'd love to see a sales rep from Monster respond. I'm sure they could come up with some BS to try to get into your wallet.

There are differences in the cables and some work better than others.
It would be accurate to say it will be very obvious if your digital cable isn't good enough because there will be obvious artifacts like sparkles, static, blanking picture, etc. You won't see gradual degradation like you can with analog cables.
If you don't see anything obviously wrong with picture from an HDMI or DVI cable you are using, buying a more expensive cable will make no difference.
Monoprice sells high quality cables for an afordable price. They are highly recommended.

But there is nothing wrong with the stock cable, right? I ask because my install is happening tomorrow......

Crap, I wasted 23$ extra for the cable. Well my fault. Should have read the "whats in the box".
Oh well, **** happens!

I would say at reasonable lengths, any HDMI cable will do. At six feet, you should be able to use almost any cable. At longer lengths, the quality of the cable may start to matter.
The thing I really get a kick out of is the "premium" OPTICAL cables! Talk about a waste of money.

I'm sure you will find a use for it, like a DVD player or something. When I bought my HD TV, I got sucked in to paying $120 for a monster cable. Once I came out of the ether, I returned it. I've probably gotten 10 different cables since then, that in total combined, cost less than the $120 I almost threw away. Component cables, DVI-HDMI adapters, HDMI cables, wall plates, etc. etc. Whatever, stay far away from the Monster ripoff. Ebay and monoprice are your friends!
