I ordered an additional outlet and a 19" HDTV for my bedroom. I am doing this with the hopes that MRV someday will become available and at that time I will get another S3.

I told TW that I didn't want a DVR, just a digital HD box decoder. But apparently those are things of the past and it appears the dreaded SA 8300 is preparing to enter my home again!

They assure me they will not charge me for a DVR however the charge for this "box' is 10.95. The previous charge for my DVR was 7.00 for service and 5.00 for the rental. Also my cable cards seemed for some reason to have an effect on the price of this pos returning to my home.

Anyway I'll use it until MRV comes around. And hopefully by then the price of the S3 will come down. Still just the thought of that thing returning is, irritating. And ironic.

Cable companies have the ability to not charge for the 'DVR Service' and have the box act just like a standard STB. Ie, you may not have any DVR capabilities. Then again, you may ... depends on how TW is setting things up.

Kind of wondered about that. I just as soon not even get started in that direction (using it as a DVR) and really, I don't see any need to.

I guess 'DVR functionality' is a relative term ... some would probably question whether the 8300 provides 'DVR functionality' even with the DVR service ;)

BTW, with Cox Fairfax and an 8300HD and no 'DVR Service' ... the thing acted just like a normal STB. No recording ... no trick play ... no nothing.
