Hello.

I searched this forum for a helpful discussion but couldn't find any so this is probably something everyone else knows but me (wouldn't be the first time!)

Here's what's going on: First I transferred 3 shows from my Tivo to my PC using regular Tivo Desktop 2.3a. I wanted to move these shows to my iPod, so THEN I went and upgraded my Desktop to Desktop Plus, which I did by purchasing the upgrade and, from the "Upgrade to Tivo Desktop Plus..." link under Help in the Desktop application, putting in the Activation code, which was accepted and...that's it.

I thought there would be some helpful information on how to proceed once the upgrade was finished but I don't notice any Transfer-to-Ipod specific new features in the Desktop application (to be honest, I didn't notice ANY new menu features after the upgrade). I don't know how to transfer the 3 shows I have on my PC over to my iPod. I searched for help at Tivo-dot-com for any basic tutorial on how this is supposed to work, but was faced with, irritatingly enough only:

1) broken links
2) server application errors
3) no relevant info.
(which is probably not surprising for a company that has known about the "my tivo togo transfer stops at 1MB" issue since October 2006 , which is affecting thousands of users, and 4 months later has yet to fix it. Ugh.)

Does it matter that I'm trying to transfer shows I put on my PC BEFORE upgrading and, in any case, does anyone have a resource that is basically, "Transferring shows from your Tivo to your iPod 101"? Thanks!

Look at the top of this topic area for a sticky on the TiVo Converter Wrapper. It will do what you want.

I also noticed that the TiVo site is having problems. It looks like no one pays attention over the weekends. If you could get in there, there are some good tech support articles that do explain things in pretty good detail.

ok, thanks! That's a weird title for the thread- "Converter Wrapper"- I would have never have figured out that it would have anything to do with my issue. Thanks!

I use it a lot. I think he called it that, because it is a GUI that "wraps" and hides the messiness of the command line interface needed to make TiVo Converter work. Before he created that many of us were writing command scripts to do the some of that, but the wrapper is much much better than anything I had before.

I don't have the plus version, but was considering buying it to be able to play shows on my ipod. According to Tivo.com I should be able to go to file/preferences/portable devices, then choose mpeg-4. Is that not all I have to do?

In the non-plus version, this option is greyed out.

Sorry if you had trouble with the website this weekend, I've made the team aware of the issue. It seems to be running fine now, the information you want is here. (http://customersupport.tivo.com/LaunchContent.aspx?CID=45efa25c-8173-43d5-a061-37350854b603)

As far as the TTG transfer issue, we have acknowledged that we're aware of this problem and are working on getting it fixed. It does not effect all users of TiVoToGo.

Cheers,
Pony

Unfortunately, it appears the 8.1a fix causes the problem for me.
I can transfer anything, 1hour tv shows recorded a couple months ago and previously converted, but cannot convert them again... or view them completely,, there is a play failure in the same place as the convert fails..

help.. this worked great for 8 or 9 months.
