When I switch between TV and the TIVO Central screen on my series 3 - and vice versa but mostly when I start a program - I briefly see flickering background, static/images not a part of the program, sometimes including the little TIVO mascot. Everything seems to be working fine but I wonder if what I'm describing is "normal." I don't recall this behavior on my series 2 Pioneer 810h

This is most likely your TV recalibrating between different resolutions. See page 57 of your manual.

If you'd like further assistance, it'd be best to post your TV model(s) and your Aspect Ratio and Output Format settings and cabling used.

I'm seeing the same thing. I'm using 720p fixed, so it can't be a resolution switching problem. I think what's happening is that when you switch from menus to playback you are seeing the last 1 or 2 frames of the previous playback. Sometimes it is the previous show you watched and sometimes it can be the Tivo mascot video (if you've recently rebooted).

I don't think TV recalibrating is the answer. With my old Cox SA8300 HD DVR, there were delays when changing channels -- sometimes 3 or 4 seconds or so -- if the channels differed in resolution. That is similar to my series 3 and is expected behavior. But the delay is not what I'm describing.

I probably didn't describe this minor annoyance very well. Let me try again. If I am watching a recorded show and hit the TIVO button I will briefly see what is best described as horizontal bands of junk often with a "giant" TIVO man visible in the middle of the TV. It only lasts a second or two and doesn't always happen.

Unless someone is experiencing this same phenomena I believe there may be something not quite right with my series 3.

(P.S. I have a Toshiba 50HP95 plasma connected to the series 3 via HDMI. Aspect is set to Full on both TV and series 3, and autoaspect is turned off on the TV. My picture is resolving the way I prefer, namely I never have bars to manually turn off. I don't mind the fact the sd picture is stretched, prefering that over the bars.)

That sounds more like what I'm experiencing but I often briefly see a large TIVO mascot in the center of the screen and I haven't rebooted in many days. Perhaps this is just a minor software bug but maybe not if we are in the minority experiencing this phenomenom.

Has no one else noticed this same "bug"?

Let me guess, both are connected via HDMI, and when flipping between HD channels, or going to/from the TiVo menu, you get what appears to be green lines and/or garbled video frames. If you flip between digital or analog SD channels, it doesn't do it (or doesn't *always* do it)?

Willing to bet it's HDCP handshaking on content resolution switch. Mine does the same thing, whether I have it set to fixed or native resolution, and I'm pretty sure I remember earlier discussion pointing to HDCP. I haven't yet, but have you tried using the component connection and seeing if it still happens?

Isn't content protection grand?
