i dont get it. whats the difference?
are they the same thing?
if so, why the two different names?

and secondly...
after i get my TiVo Desktop properly sorted, what will i need to burn shows to DVD media? i would prefer to use Nero and not have to install any more burning software.

also...
about how long does it take to download a one hour show from the TiVo to my computer? (i'm using Wireless G network.) how big is the file size? and how long would it take to convert to .mp4? what apps will i need for proper file conversion? should i buy Desktop Plus?

thanks :)

TiVoToGo is a part of TiVoDesktop. TiVoDesktop is the program that you would run on your PC, TiVoToGo is what TiVo calls transferring programs to your PC using TiVoDesktop.

A one hour show takes about 40 minutes for me to transfer from my DT to my PC. I am also running wireless G. I record in HIGH quality. Transfer speeds depend on many, many factors: PC speed, TiVo box, network speed, A/B/G, Wireless/Wired, recording quality.

thanks :)

There are several long threads on that here. The short answer is that the most recommended options are to Convert the file for DVD authoring and remove commercials using VidoRedo ($50) and then use the resulting files to author the DVD using what you have or a combination of DVDStyler and imgburn (free). GregBurns uses Nero, so pay close attention to his posts in the burning threads for the details you will need to get it working properly.

I transfer basic and medium quality shows from my 540 and 595 TiVos in about 45 minutes to an hour. The 540 uses the TiVo adapter to a wireless repeater, the 595 has only one wireless hop. Files at basic quality run 750MB per hour, the medium files are closer to a Gigabyte. On my AMD X2 4200 plus, an hour show takes roughly 25 minutes to convert using TiVo Desktop Plus and about 8 minutes using AVIVO. AVIVO leaves the garbage bits at the top of the screen and doesn't tag the files so they all end up on the movies folder of my iPod, but when I am in a hurry, I can live with that.

TivoToGo runs on the Tivo, Tivo Desktop runs on your PC and can transfer shows using TivoToGo. Basically, any web browser can transfer shows with TivoToGo.
