Just wondering if ours is the only household that doesn't care even a little bit.

In fact, I may go to WalMart during the game just so I can bask in the "desertedness."

I'm Tivoing the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. I'm going to watch that instead.

The Stupor Bowl won't get any time in my house. :)

I'll watch some good old movies instead.

If I wasn't getting paid to watch it, I probably wouldn't be.

Last 2 years I've TiVo'd it, then when I got home from work (1-11pm Sundays) I FF'd through the game just to watch the commercials.

Since it's back on CBS, I have to work it.

At least I'll have some sit back and relax programming on the TiVo's when I get home.

I will probably TiVo the game and watch the commercials as well (especially if they are going to be in HD).

Other than that... doesn't make much difference to me.

I'm going to record it only for the commercials just like I've done for the last few years. I couldn't care less about the game and don't even know who's playing.

Normally I wouldn't watch but it is The Bears after all - I believe that I am actually required by law to watch this year

I've got it programmed on the TiVo - mostly for the commercials - but I just saw the promo where you can sign up to receive all of the ads via Product Watch download anyway. May have to reconsider.

I do the same as the OP, if it weren't so bitterly cold outside. As it is, I'll probably get caught up on my TV watching (got to get through last season's 24 yet, plus the latter half of the first season of Torchwood).

I'm going to spend the evening snacking and watching commercials and TV spots for upcoming blockbuster films.

Oh, and apparently there's some "game" or something that decides the fate of the universe in between said advertising.

Why do people watch the Super Bowl for the commercials? Is it so they can laugh at the commercials? Why not watch a good comedy movie instead? At least you won't be bombarded with products that you have to have while you watch. Watch Top Secret, Airplane, The Jerk, Ghostbusters, etc. The commercials recently haven't been nearly as good as in the past anyway. You realize that companies are paying milions of dollars to advertise during the Super Bowl, don't you think that they pass that cost on to you in their products?

You realize that companies are paying milions of dollars to advertise during the Super Bowl, don't you think that they pass that cost on to you in their products?I don't think it's that the Superbowl commercials have declined in quality, so much as that regular everyday commericals have gotten more entertaining. Since the rise of TiVo and the internet, advertisers are having to work harder to get people to even watch their commercials, so the entertaining SB-style commercials are being produced on a regular basis. That makes the actual SB ads seem less spectacular by comparison.

As for why I'll watch: first, I do enjoy football a little bit, so I can watch a little before going on to do something else for a while. Second, I can watch a comedy program any time, but the SB commercials are a special event. People will be talking about them tomorrow, so even if I go online and watch there, it won't be the same as seeing them SB night. And anyway it's too much trouble to go online and watch them when they're rhight there on the TV.

Looks to be a good game. I'll probably have it on but I might switch around, or watch a movie. I'll watch the commercials and Prince though.

I think this would be a good time to clear up my TiVo (L&O and E.R.) and finish Disc 1 of Sleeper Cell S1 and 24 S1.

Top Secret, Airplane, The Jerk, Ghostbusters, etc.
I'd enjoy the SB commercials a whole lot more. But to each his own.

I'll be watching the game for the game and enjoying the commercials, too. I tend to FF through half-time though. Even being from Minnesota, Prince doesn't do a thing for me.

All of those movies mentioned, while funny, are old. I've seen them many times. The commercials are new. I haven't seen 'em. And I like new. Bring 'em on. Hopefully, some will be memorable.

I'm going to the gym after the game starts (and after my dog is done watching the Puppy Bowl). I'm hoping the gym will be nice and empty since all the muscleheads will probably be at home watching the game. The Superbowl will probably be on every TV at the gym, though, so I'll probably see bits and pieces of it.

How does that (downloading Superbowl ads) work?Your TiVo needs to be connected to Broadband. In the Music, Photos & More menu, go to Product Watch and in the What's New category, select "Catch the Big Game Ads." Then go to Options/Settings on the Product Watch page and make sure "Record no more than" is set to 20 videos.

The videos are supposed to download some time on Monday

I have it on, but I'm not paying attention to it. I'm not TiVoing it either. I'm capturing it in HD on my Mac and will be editing out the game leaving just the HD commercials after it is done.

I am NOT watching it, I do have it on the radio. Also, recording it on one TiVo (X-Men on the other one) I plan to watch the commercials later on. I like noise in the background and am not really listening to it on the radio.

Prince certainly is amazing. I mean, he was even able to make it rain so there would be great shots during the performance of "Purple Rain". :D

Super Bowl Sunday is a National Holiday for me. I would hate to miss it, and this year, like most, I didn't.

It seems to me that the commercials are usually a letdown. I think the only one I really liked tonight was the "auctioneer wedding." I also found "Map monster" pretty funny.

For those of you who did not watch it you missed an EXCELLENT Super Bowl.I'd say a decent SB, but not excellent. Agree with DLL66, the commercials weren't that special this year. The last several years, the games have been better than the commercials, which I suppose is the way it should be.

As the only one in my circle of friends with a big-screen TV I offered to them to use my house for their SuperBowl party, planning to spend it in the basement. They didn't take me up on it.

So the wife and me watched 24 season 4 on DVD straight through (well, not at one sitting) this weekend. At one point I was briefly amused to note that the action concerned the passing back and forth of a football...

We record the game and later on (sometimes much later on) watch the commercials & Half-time show. As for the game itself, you can watch all of the important plays on the news in a fraction of the time it takes for the hype (which started at 11:30 in NY!) and the game itself. I'm hoping we got the Criminal Minds that came on after.

I don't have any interest in football but recorded it anyway to see the commercials. I've gotten through the first hour so far.

I would up spending a few hours in the emergency room last night after having dinner in a restaurant with a friend and her 12-year old daughter. The girl got bored after finishing her food and started playing with her EpiPen under the table. We had to go to the ER after she accidentally injected her thumb with a dose of the epinephrine.

I should have just stayed home and watched the game.

Through the magic of living on the West Coast, at our Super Bowl party we put on "Grease: You're the One That I Want" after the game and made fun of the show. The 7:00 and 9:00 episodes had a normal load of advertising, but the 8:00 episode had no national commercials, just NBC promos and local ads. That wasn't a problem, because some of those were extended "30 Rock" promos that were nothing but Alec Baldwin's funniest lines -- just an interesting situation that there would be one episode during which NBC wouldn't run any paid advertising.

techinically we didnt

we weren't interested in the teams. Recorded and FF thru the game to get to the commercials. What a waste of time. I realize they pay X dollars just to air them, but why not spent a decent amount to make them also? (or rather make them fun!)

http://www.monkeyshinesbeadery.com/Look at the context of the post, and the thread that it is posted in.

What makes more sense? That, or viewing them as two derogatory terms to describe african-americans when talking about a game with a majority of black players? I'm sorry if people don't understand the term "shines," but it is a term just as offensive as the N-word and it refers to the fact that the user thinks african-american's have "shiny" skin. Add in the fact that he'd just go to the zoo if he wanted to see "monkeys," and you have a disgusting post. Looking at the top google entries doesn't always work.
