i just picked up another lifetime unit dirt cheap at the sales ! $5.00.....svr 3000...problem is , i do not have the original remote, so i use a universal like on my other tivo...the svr 3000 on plugging in power cord , fires up immeadiately, there is no bad noises to suggest hard drive failed, but it will not go past the welcome, powering up screen.....i lost my code sheet for the uni remote so cannot try the pause 57 thing !....just wondering if it is worth me picking up another remote for $20.00 to try the self repair mode of unit...or as it is stuck on welcome screen ...could it definatly be the hard drive failed ???..got a deal so do not want to spend another $20.00 , as i am tight fisted !!!...thanks in advance

You bought a lifetime series 2 for $5 and are complaining about having to spend another $20 for a remote? Tight fisted is a gross understatement! I'll buy it from you as is for $50 - just think of the profit you will make!

Yuo can probably find a code sheet on the internet.

Wait... where did you get a lifetime unit for $5?

Could you buy a lifetime unit for $5, and then do a lifetime transfer to an S3?!?

If you're just testing it, the 3000 has buttons on the front panel... they're not just pretty lights. Only the older Series 1 Sony SVR-2000 had no buttons, like the old Philips units. But even if it doesn't make noises, if it never gets past the welcome screen you need a new hard drive.

oh, you any relation to f1nuts? Just curious....

My SVR-3000 recently stuck on the gray "powering up" screen. It was a hard drive failure. :(
Sorry...
