Ok, I made the mistake of buying the non-dB35 Seagate 750GB to upgrade my Series 3.

Everything went very smoothly (Bumwine method), but the sound of the disk seeks/writes is about to drive me bonkers, and I have just placed my order for the dB35 version.

My question: What is my upgrade path here? Can I upgrade old 750GB --> new 35dB 750GB or do I have to go back to my original 250GB --> new 35dB 750GB?

Any gotchas or different commands, etc to the bumwine method?

Thanks!

I just copied a 500GB drive(WD5000AAKS) to another 500GB drive(WD5000YS) using the Bumwine method. So you should be able to do the same thing with the 750GB drive so you don't lose recordings and to make sure the Cable Card info doesn't change. I had no problems. You just do the copy part and not the MFStools part since both drives are the same size. Of course it will take 3 times as long for you since you won't be copying a 250GB this time. Mine took exaxtly twice as long since it was a 500GB drive. I tried putting my drives on different ide channels but it copied them at the same speed(around 26.6MB/s) as when they were on the same ide channel. I was also using and old slow P3 1Ghz PC so a newer faster PC will make a big difference.
