I just looked at the guide today for Channel 70 (HBO HD) and I see that "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" (my favorite of the series) is on today at 12:00 PM MST.
I also see that "Star Wars:A New Hope" is on tomorrow at 9:00 AM MST.
Just wanted to give everyone a "heads up." In the guide, it list them as "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Star Wars," respectively.
Man, it will be so sweet to have those recorded in HD! I wonder if they'll be the enhanced versions or the original cuts?
By the way, no WAY that Greedo shoots first. Yoda is the MAN!
Enjoy!

I recorded SW III on HBO HD a week or two ago, it being the one SW movie I had not seen before. I managed to get through about 10 minutes before I turned it off.... IV and V are my favorites.

Wow - and HBO is showing (at least) Empire Strikes Back in OAR! Could it be wishful thinking that maybe they're rethinking their stance? Or just a contractual obligation to Lucasfilm, or even more likely, just broadcasting the format Lucasfilm provided???
I think it's worth an attaboy email to HBO, though...

Don't they have to broadcast the way the film owner requires it if they have a preference?

No Return of the Jedi in the HBO HD guide when I scheduled episodes IV and V <sigh>

steve, you should've at least jumped to about 20 minutes before the end and you could've heard some of the most infamous dialogue in movie history. :p
Padme: "Anakin, you're breaking my heart. You're going down a path I cannot follow."
Followed soon after by Obi-Wan saying to Anakin:
Obi-Wan: "You are beaten, Anakin, I have the high ground."

Watching Episode V today was SO great. That Darth Vader: What an actor!

No Return of the Jedi in the HBO HD guide when I scheduled episodes IV and V <sigh>
I checked the guide and ROTJ is being shown (at least in the next 2 weeks) on HBOW, but not on Channel 70 (HBOH).
Maybe it will be on Chan 70 sometime in the near future?
The Emperor's speech to Luke at the end ("fully armed and oper-a-tion-al bat-tle-sta-tion") outweighs the lameness of the ewoks anyday!

I did the same thing. I don't know why the main HBO channel would show episodes 4 and 5 but not ROTJ. It is a trilogy, why not show all three.

Isn't HBO-HD a simulcast of HBOE?
If it's on HBOW, it's on HBOE 3 hour earlier, and therefore on HBO-HD.
HBO2 on the other hand doesn't have an HD counterpart (nor does HBO Fam)

Unfortunately I think the HBO scheduling department is run by a dyslexic moron.
I have been tracking the Star Wars and I noticed that so far they have been running in a crazy order.
I first saw I and III on the schedule in the same week. There was no II. About a month later, I notice V comes on and in the same week II is also shown. Why wasn't II shown after I? Why wait a month? Recently I notice that IV is on. Hopefully next week VI will be on.
Now I may just be catching reruns out of order but it surely seems all over the place to me.. I do not see why HBO can't just schedule a Star Wars marathon, I though to VI. That would be fun....
On a positive note, all the ones I watched (I and III) have been OAR. I have not check out the originals yet.

I recorded Empire.
Looking forward to Jedi.
maybe the original trilogy will come out in blu-ray eventually.
I have to admit, Star Wars III looked really nice in HD.

WOW! I wish I had seen this earlier! I just ignored them when I saw them on HBO's schedule because HBO always butchers films.
Now I have to Tivo them. :)

I watched part of Episode IV in HD and it looked pretty lackluster. It's a 30 year old film, sure, but I was hoping it would be better. I hope the eventual Blu-Ray improves upon it.
Episode III was great in HD though - especially all of the detail in the opening space battle.

Just looked at the schedule and I see that "Return of the Jedi" is finally being broadcast on Channel 70 (HBOH) on March 6, at 9:00 AM MST.
Get those HR10-250s programmed! Finally, the original trilogy will be complete in HD! :D

i recorded III on my panny E80 and as i was FFing thru to the end to edit it, 1/2 way thru it went into what i assume was copyright protection mode. But why would it do that just in the middle of the movie?
I've never seen this on any PPV or other premium movie i burned

Not sure what happened to your recording. I transferred III from my HD Tivo to the harddrive of my E95h Panny DVR and from the drive to a disc, which looks fine. You should try to catch another broadcast of the episode.

Sadly they are the enhanced "Special Edition" versions of all of the original trilogy on HBO. (DVD in 2004)
This last September they finally released the original movies on DVD. Maybe I'm just a purist, but I really prefer the unadulterated originals.

For about 99% of the "Special Edition" changes I agree with you. However, I do like that the "Special Edition" got rid of the horrible Ewok song at the end of Episode 6.
Again, and I cannot say this enough; there is no WAY that Gredo shoots first in Ep 4. That to me is the WORST of the "Special Edition" enhancements.

I've gotten to record Episodes II - V on mine, but patiently awaiting for them to broadcast Episodes VI and I in HD.
B.T.W. What does OAR stand for?
