Anyone notice that the number of Tivo Rewards Points needed to get the Glo Remote changed, from 8500 to 5000??? I certainly did! As happy as I am to see the cost for items decreasing, I am very unhappy to report that I recently ordered a Glo Remote at the higher price. WTF?!?

I may just have to spend my parent's referral points :)

That's cool. :)

Too bad I also ordered one at the old price level. :(

Such is the fate of the "early adopter"! :D

It's actually a nice remote. I ordered this one for my downstairs TV, which is a combo TV/DVD player and would not work with the Series2 remote. Because this one is a learning remote, I simply taught it the correct codes for power and volume.

Then I reprogrammed the "input" and "mute" buttons so that they'll control the key DVD features of my Humax DRT800. :D

Obviously I could have done this with a universal remote, but I haven't found a universal remote that works with these devices and whose button layout I like.

And no, I don't really use the built-in DVD player on this TV set anymore. The DRT800 is oh so much better as a DVD player.

Now, I will only have 100 points!! WTF ;)

I guess it is time, to see if the select will bother me.

Edit: Nevermind, I found the answer. The Aspect button is NOT programmable. Drat.

-----------
I grabbed one and it arrived yesterday. The tactical feel is altered a little because of slight changes to the buttons, but I think I'll grow to like it.

One question: Is my remote broken, or can you NOT program the Aspect button via the learning feature? I can set it to my TV via the usual #### lookup process, and I can make the Input button a learned button just fine. When I try to make the Aspect button learn a command, it doesn't do the single LED flash - just the ten fast flashes.

What a bummer if they don't allow the Aspect button to be changed. It was the one useless button that I wanted to use as on/off for my receiver. Can anyone else program their Aspect button?

I noticed this change right away, and wondered the same thing, but it seems so natural this way. I use it all the time.

Before with the original peanut I would hit 'right' instead of select whenever I could anyway. So this is really easier.

The select button is not that big of a deal. The trouble for me is with the play button not being round/smaller/raised higher. I always feel lost, on where my finger is on the remote.

Hmm. that sucks. But I just ordered another one. So 1 for 8500, 1 for 5000, that makes them 6750/each.

Officially, you can program the power button to learn the power command for up to 3 devices. See this article (http://customersupport.tivo.com/LaunchContent.aspx?CID=BE9BD3FE-3BE0-4636-88A3-C5D730E58855) for details.

Unofficially, someone on another thread reported programming the Mute button to control power for their A/V separately than the Power button, which controls the TV. He did this to avoid having the Power button control power for both simultaneously because you can sometimes get out of sync if the signal does not get to one of those devices.

The Aspect button is not meant to be programmable for controlling a separate device. The code for it is meant to control only the aspect ratio of the S3.

I found that I didn't need to use the input button on the glo-remote for input switching, and programmed that to act as the aspect button for my TV. Now, between the Series3 aspect adjustments, and my TV's, all on one remote, I am much happier. Grab the glo-remote...it is just plain good.

I really just want the remote with the American Flag on it. I don't understand why it's more points than any of the other remotes though.

I hadn't noticed until the Rewards Team told me, but if you click on the TiVoGlo link you'll see that this is only for the month of February. A Valentine's gift from them that allows a single referral to get the fancy remote!

Thanks Jerry! I figure I'll just go with the Input button as a receiver power button. I generally use the input hotkeys on my TV remote anyway, and infrequently at that. Good to have the article link for later.

Hah - dunno why I didn't do this before :) My TV has a weird input code/sequence anyway - nothing but the Harmony can work it!

My Input button on the GloRemote now switches through the TV's aspect modes, letting me force it to show the digital cable shows at 4:3 when they ARE 4:3. Without reaching for the Harmony :)

[broken record] While we have Jerry's ear, and since TiVo folks aren't that busy with anything new these days anyway (I keeeed!) any chance of pushing/suggesting a nice Rewards video player with a 16:9 screen an flipped layout (non-iPod like)? :) Toshiba Gigabeat, Archo etc come to mind and are in the same price range and superior (for video) than the video iPod.

Thank for listening, as always :)

I ordered my remote on Tuesday and it shipped on Wednesday -- much better than the 8-10 weeks that the confirmation email warned me that Rewards might take to ship. :)

UPS says I should have it on Monday.

Yup, I ordered mine Friday and it arrived Tuesday. A bit better than the 6-8 weeks quoted for me too :).

BTW, me likey. I never got a replacement remote since the 7.X debacle and still had the intermittent double hit issues button pushes with my original peanut. With the new Glo Remote all remote issues are gone.

Hmm, may be a good deal, but I already have 3 remotes for 2 tivos.

But I don't have enough points for anything else....

Whats the benefits of the GloRemote over the normal?

The GloRemote is a learning programmable. I'll be able to program in the power and volume functions for my off-brand amplifier that are never included in the settings for a pre-programmed remote.

It's also, of course, so nice and Gloey. :) (Lights up in the dark when a key is pressed). It's taking me a bit to get used to the positon of the select button, but I really like the clicky feel of the keys as opposed to the previous remotes mushy keys. And of course, it's just plain gorgeous. Thanks for the promo TiVo. :)

It also looks awesome, runs on 4 AAAs instead of 2 AAs and has much better weight/balance in your hand. You don't have to look down to recognize which side you're holding any more ;)

I just ordered one for my brother. I don't have any Tivo service (and probably won't because I think I am going to go another route (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=332652)) and I only have the 5000 because of him buying another Tivo.

Maybe since this one is a learning remote, he can get rid of some of the myriad remotes that he has (the original Tivo remote had codes that didn't work for his TV).

Maybe he'll give me a few free games of bowling or something...
