9/11 type catastrophe next week? And I'm already sick of Addison and what's-his-name. Gimme a break. Did like George finally standing up for Calliope and his marriage.

A patient with blood so toxic it makes the Alien from "Alien" seem like Pollyanna.
A lucid but still maddening Ellis Grey.
George and Callie -- married!
And the hits just keep on coming.

That was wonderful seeing Addison pine for Alex like that. And then to go for McSteamy at the end. It was good to see George finally have some backbone. I was really getting tired of him just being a rag for everybody else. But I could stand to lose the whole Denny and Izzy storyline once and for all. I'm sick of Izzy. I'm sick of hearing about Denny. And I'm sick of the whole $8 million. It was better on the refrigerator door, though Izzy was still worthless.

Some nice individual moments in this one. Ellen Pompeo actually impressed me in the scene where Meredith told her mother off. Yang's and Burke's scene where she told him "yes" was fun. And I, too, liked George finally standing up for Callie, although I'm not fully sure I believed that he believed it. I'm not sure whether that's just T.R. Knight's acting style or whether it was deliberately played that way. Either way, I'm guessing those two are not out of the woods.
The rest of the episode was enjoyable enough, but almost everything screamed "plot device!" The free clinic, as discussed here last week. (And why again is it staffed by surgical residents? And why again does the hospital only seem to employ those 10 or so doctors and about three nurses?) Meredith's mom being lucid for exactly one episode. The toxic patient (although there is almost always one PDP -- plot device patient -- each week.)
I was surprised at Addison going for Mark at the end, but I guess that makes sense. She's lusting after Karev, but won't go for it, so she has to get her ya-ya's out somewhere.

Hey bierboy, spoilerize previews.
When they showed the preview for next week, my wife groaned, "Oh Jeez, please don't turn this into ER."

My TiVo cut off the end, just before Grey's Mom gives a reason for the surgery
What was it :)

Meredith told Ellis that the reason she wanted her to have the surgery was that Meredith continued to hope that in five or ten years a cure would be found for Alzheimer's, and she wanted her mother to be alive to benefit from that cure so that they could finally work on having a real mother-daughter relationship.
I guess it could be a spoiler, so I'll use the tags, but didn't the media report that sometime soon a "major" character was going to die? With that in the back of my mind, I fully expected that during the whole thing with the toxic patient that someone was....and it almost looked like it was going to be Addison when she just went right in....... We'll see if this does happen somewhere in the next episodes.......

Hey bierboy, spoilerize previews.
When they showed the preview for next week, my wife groaned, "Oh Jeez, please don't turn this into ER."
and I turned to mine and said, I wonder what the catastrophe will be, possibly a helicopter crashing down and cutting off people's arms? :D
I too thought it was interesting to see Addison pining over Karev. I kind of figured they would hook up, but I suppose they want to hold them getting together until sweeps or something.
I am definitely tired of the whole Denny-Izzy story line. As I have mentioned so many times before, I hated it before. I thought maybe I was getting a respite, but nope, right back in my face. Also, the whole thing was even more unbeleiveable than the rest of the story, no way they could get all that done in 8 days, certainly if they did it that quick, there is no way Izzy could be so involved as to know what each thing costed.
The toxic patient is based on a real medical story from several years ago IIRC.
It was also pretty funny to hear Karev shout "She's Callie O'Malley!" as soon as they heard the news. Someone called that last week.

Hey bierboy, spoilerize previews. Why? I said spoilers in the title of the thread. Besides, it doesn't have a major impact on any character storyline.

I actually don;t care, but the forum rules say that spoilers are only OK for up to the shows airing. Lots of people do not watch the previews so we are not supposed to openly post about them.

Yang's and Burke's scene where she told him "yes" was fun.
She didn't say "yes"; best she could muster was "yeah". :) It was a great scene.

I watched the previews for next week, and one detail caught my eye:In next week's episode, the surgical chief's goatee and hair are black. In this week's, they're gray. I guess someone bought some "Just For Men"!

I thought Ellen Pompeo was heartbreakingly good in this ep. The anguish and hurt in her eyes when Ellis laid into her was so, so real. We make fun of Meredith quite a bit here, but the writers have intentionally portrayed her as an extremely flawed character, and a big reason why is due to her relationship with her mother.

I agree, she turned in a good performance.

Well, Callie has to say no, just because it would make her "Callie O'Malley" and how embarrassing is that? :p
You got it right Lainie! :D I actually laughed out loud when they said that.
I liked the Addison/Alex story line she just wanted to eat him up.

We groaned that too. Hopefully they'll be able to keep it about the characters and not the event.
