View Full Version : Took the plunge; looking for thoughts on my plan...

OK, after a lot of hesitation (hesitation b/c I'm a little gunshy after reading about the difficulties some of you have had), I've finally jumped on the S3 bandwagon. I'm a lifetime S1 and monthly S2 owner. Just bought an S3 on 1/31 to take advantage of the transfer offer.
But, I'm still a little worried that I may end up with a 'problem' S3 (although I realize that we only hear about the problems, not the successes). I was hoping those who went before me can verify my plan.

I'd like to set up the S3 and run it through its paces to make sure it works as it should. After hours spent searching the forum, this is my plan.

1. Hook up the S3 to my non-HD TV.
2. Call Comcast and have them install 2 CCs (asking for their most experienced installer).
2. Using the free 7 days, set up SPs, record 2 shows at same time, etc... basically, just use it. (When does the 7-day period start, after the first time the S3 connects to TIVO?)
3. If all goes well, call TIVO by by March 2 and transfer lifetime to S3 from S1.

Questions:

I'll be able to figure out if everything is working OK even though I don't have a HD-TV, right? Or are there things you can only check if you have a HD? (The only thing that comes to mind is non-working RC issue that seems to be related to HD-TVs).

What do I do between 7 and 30 days, since free period will be over? I think some have set up a Monthly payment, then call and have to transfer the lifetime by 30 days... but sounds like it might be an issue depending on the TIVO CSR you end up with. Any suggestions... maybe just do the transfer after 7 day period is up?

I (think) I read in one post that I could have them put the free 12-month on my S2, even though I'm transferring lifetime from my S1... is this right?

If, after transferring lifetime to S3, can you call and cancel the S3 and transfer back to the S1? If yes, I'm assuming you have to do it within 30 days of the transfer, right?

Am I missing anything? Thanks very much in advance... hopefully I won't have any problems....

Your SD TV should be fine for checking out the S3 but you won't be able to test the component or HDMI outputs.

Five days testing was adequate for me and I did the LT transfer when I got messages from the S3 that grace period was up. Don't know if you can cancel the transfer but probably could since the actual transfer doesn't take place until after 60 days.

The one year free would be for your S1, and the VIP terms state that it is non-transferable.

I reread the VIP page here (http://www.tivo.com/vip) and you can cancel the transfer within 30 days.
