No one chatting on about the Sea Launce explosion yet?

http://dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=78244

I get that it is not DTiVo intentioned specifically -- but it is certainly DTV HD related at the least. I'll take it to the chit chat area....

It is not DirecTiVo related as it was not a DirecTV satellite that blew up. I guess this could effect the future DirecTV satellite launches. The other Sea Launch failures did not happen on the launch platform but happened in flight. I guess we will wait and see if the oil rig survived.

On second thought, it is not DTiVo related in the least...nothing that a future sat could provide most likely would ever be viewable by the HR10-250 anyway.

rminsk is correct. See chit chat area, it is still an interesting DTV issue....

Wow, it has been a long time since a rocket has fallen back to the pad. I guess that is why the command vessel moves 3 miles away.

That'll buff out... :)

Survey says that pad/oil platform may need some repair...

Would have to think DTV will simply find an alternate launch vehicle (but admittedly not a Rocket geek).

I think that takes years.

Nope....Direct10 is sked. shortly...it includes a option for multiple launches...

I must have missed something. The link was to an article from 2005, and I didn't see multiple launch ops for D10.
Am I wrong (very good possibility, I recently quit smoking)?

Yes you are wrong...here is a clip from the article...note that the contract was
signed back in 2005 and the launch is sked. for Apr-May...
------------------
The launch, on a Russian-built Proton/Breeze M rocket, is planned for second quarter 2007 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The contract includes an option for an additional launch.

That just basically means that DTV can scheduled another launch with them at some point, but that doesn't address semantics of finding another launch vehicle with an available window, getting the launch vehicle ready, etc.

That's the part that takes some time - you can't simply take the satellite and throw it on another rocket. Still, I think there's enough time between now and the planned launch to probably make a switch (or for SeaLaunch to work out their problems).

But again, I'm no Rocket Scientist :p

How can anyone take this guy seriously when he repeatedly talks about how DirecTV needs the satellites to store the HD channels. (Not that there aren't already numerous reasons to discount most anything Swanni writes.)

It's unclear if DIRECTV's ground satellite will have enough capacity to store 100 national HD channels.

http://www.tvpredictions.com/sealaunch013107.htmTake everything from this site with a HUGE gain of salt.

The article says "But the second one, from Sea Launch, could be delayed or even cancelled by yesterday's explosion." DirecTV has already built the satellite. Building the satellite is much more expensive than launching the satellite. DirecTV will either delay the launch with Sea Launch or find another launch platform. They would never cancel a satellite they have already built. They already have to much invested.
