I am confident that a new HDD from them will solve the crappy hard drive problems I have (noisy and crapping out all the time) and obviously the increased hard drive size I want. I just want to know will it rid my Directv r10 of needing a phone line? If their HDD's are configured that way where can I get a plug and play HDD that is? I have always been a fan of plug and play and they seem like a simple choice as long as I can get rid of the phone line.

Thanks,
Greg

Yes, the drive is plug-N-play, but upgrading your drive will NOT undo the need for a phone line attached.

Honestly, you don't even need the phone line attached at all for any other reason than to be able to order PPV movies right from the box. The only thing is that you will begin getting that annoying message every day to connect a phone line and call in, but you can just ignore it. You can still order PPV movies online and still get them like normal. Other than to order PPV right from the box, there is NO reason to have a phone line connected to the R10. All your program information and updates are sent via the satellite.

A friend of mine has an R10 that was connected the first time for the initial setup of the box. That was 8 months ago, and he has that many messages, I'm sure.
