With all the talk on this forum about the failure rate of these new series 3 I have a question.

How long do you think it will take before TiVo starts offering these for free as "Factory Refurbished Units" in exchange for a long term monthly commitment of course?

If you actually read all the threads in this forum and even bothered to do a search on "polls" you would see that the "failure" rate is much lower then you think. In fact the majority of us have no problems whats so ever with our S3's and are more then happy to have paid for them.

You have to understand that more people will come into a forum with either a complaint or an issue. When you read the whole thread you usually find that most of these issues are resolved and many of them are not any fault of the S3.

So I wouldn't get your hopes up too quick on "free S3's". The vast majority of us kept our S3's and did not turn them in for new units. Many people who did turn them in did so unnecessarily. Some people did get a bad unit here and there but no different from any other electronic product.

I agree that the vast majority of people have no problems with the S3 (unfortunately I am not one of those people), but based upon some of your postings in other threads you do have some minor issues. From what I've read of these threads they appear to be caused by the cable company but the problems are still only on your S3 and not on the STBs you have. This is a problem related to the S3, though not necessarily caused by the S3. Regardless of it being an S3 caused problem or not, it is still frustrating.

Well, currently I'm not receiving one channel which is the same channel I haven't received since day one. It was only when I saw two other channels that I should have received that I took issue with the cable company and you are correct, it is a cable company issue. I'm not concerned about the loss of this channel, they are still working to correct it and I don't consider it frustrating. Matter of fact I found it to be quite the learning experience. :)

Currently I don't have an STB, I did have an SA 8300 and that is how I know that I could receive the one channel that is missing.

You can get a "free" one right now.... If you sign up for their Tivo Rewards and spend a bazillion bucks in one year.

He was responding to another post that said the DT is still not free that would be the Series 2 DT not the Series 3.

What do you do with the Series 3 TiVo's that have been returned? They will refurbish these and sell them at a deep discount or give them out as exchanged units for other series 3's that are being returned.

I got one of my Series 2 directly from TiVo - They gave it away for free if I purchased a lifetime subscription. Based on what some of those lifetime units were being sold for on Ebay recently I should have bought several! :)

Currently I own a Series 3 - I have had two issues thus far.
1) Sometimes live tv is too live for it. If I'm watching a live program and it stutter I'll pause the program for live tv and then hit play and the stutter goes away. It's like the TiVo is slightly faster then live - (I wish this would happen several hours before a Mega Million drawing)
2) I've lost tuner 0 while watching a live program. Change the channel and then go back straightened this out. This happened twice so far.

This is what I get for being an early (beta tester) adapter... I wish the Series 3 great success - Really, I do! I'm just not as excited about it as I thought I would be - This might have something to do with the woefully undersized dimming clock and the lack of TiVo ToGo, Room Transfers and Recently Deleted Folder!

199 lifetime -> 249 lifetime -> 299 lifetime... Now it's 199 to transfer. I like the fact that they offered the transfer!
