I am looking at purchasing a Directv Hughes GXCEBOT with a Lifetime Tivo Subscription.

I have checked the DVR Receiver with Directv and its all in the clear. I can add it to my Directv Account with a New Access Card (Not a Problem) for $4.95 a Month.

My question is to do with the Lifetime Tivo Subscription. My understanding is the Subscription is tied to the DVR Receiver for its lifetime, so would the Subscription be able to be transferred?

Or would you need to transfer the Lifetime Subscription to a New Series 3?

These Lifetime Subscriptions have many answers and ideas.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

DirecTiVos have non-transferable lifetime. Lifetime for DirecTV is not with the TiVo but with the account. Lifetime is no longer available.

Thank you hiker for your quick reply. I was reading that somewhere, but lost the link to it.

Actually the lifetime can be transfered. The person selling the unit must completely cancel there DirecTV account. While canceling the lifetime can be transfered to a new account.

I would be surprised. I am moving and I can't even transfer my own lifetime TiVo service to my own account at the new address. I would sure be surprised if DirecTV would allow a transfer to a different account. I had sure hoped to activate two HD TiVos and one SD TiVo after the move until MPEG4 obsoletes my equipment.

I was informed DirecTV will no longer transfer my equipment and I had to reach an agreement to get new equipment at $100 including installation and OTA antenna for two DVRs and one standard HD receiver.

ChrisAre you saying that DirecTV will not let you activate your owned DirecTiVos at your new location?

That was exactly what I was told and have called back once and still get the same story. I understand it is dependent on CSR and their understanding but DirecTV is likely not going to allow any installs of HD TiVo soon, right now it is hit or miss. The reason I was given is that the HD TiVo will soon be obsolete for use with DirecTV and even though I understood that, I wanted to use it until it would no longer work. The answer was a firm no and I haven't decided whether to try a third time. I didn't try just an SD TiVo since I mostly watch HDTV now so I can't say they wouldn't let me transfer it to the new address.

I'd be calling again, Talk to a supervisor, and If that doesn't work ask him to transfer you to customer retention. In my area the cost differential for cable isn't big and quality is similar. With the series 3 out you do have other HD Tivo options.

YMMV
