View Full Version : HR10-250 restore without recordings

I have an HR10-250 that I added two 400GB drives to. I tried expanding it to even larger hard drives but found that I can not expand to the size of the new drives.

The 400 GB drives had a few CRC errors on them when attempting to copy to the dual 750 GB drives. Maybe the bad sectors were copied and this is why I have problems with both sets of drives. The unit started rebooting when a lightning surge  took out my water heater controls and a fish tank power head (electrocuting some snails and two nice fish in the process) and made this particular TiVo start to freeze up immediately after the strike. The 400 GB drives were installed during the strike, and only later did I attempt the expansion to dual 750 GB drives.

The 400 GB drives stopped booting properly a month ago so I continue to use the constrained 750 GB drives. I have had many freeze ups on the HR10-250 (almost daily now) using the 750 GB drives (constrained to 400 GB + 400 GB of recording space).

I would like to restore the image (made using MFSTools 2 weaknees LBA boot CD) I made of the dual 400 GB drives to a single 750GB drive or dual 750 GB drives. I am willing to throw away my recordings. This backup file has version 6.3a of the TiVo OS on it, so I would rather use this backup instead of going WAY back to the original 250 GB hard drive that came with the unit which probably only has 3.1xx on it.

Is it possible to restore this image taken from smaller drives and restore it onto two larger hard drives? Should I use MFSTools 2 or some other tool?

Thanks for any help you can provide with this TiVo I now own (not lease).

Should I consider using an InstantCake CD from DVRUpgrade.com with version 6.3b of the OS on it since I don't care about keeping anything at this point?

So after no replies here I just decided to smack down my $19 and get InstantCake with the most recent version of the TiVo OS v6.3b on it. I "baked" my InstantCake onto dual 750 GB drives and now I have an HR10-250 hopped up to maximum current capacity, and I don't have to wait till who knows when to get the upgrade from 6.3a to 6.3 b.

Thank you DVR upgrade.

I will try to salvage recordings off of the old drives by going to TiVo underground to get set up on how to move files off my TiVo to my computer.

Thanks for all your help.
Oh, my pleasure. Anytime.
Ok, I appreciate you being there.
Think nothing of it.
