I'm going to buy a used SD-DVR40 online (EBay). Some of them do not come with a power cord. In case I win the bid on one of the SD-DVR40s and it doesn't come with a power cord, I have two questions:

1) Where can I purchase them? Is there a place online where I can purchase them? I'm in the dark about what the power wattage is, etc. for the DTVs.

2) What are they called (the technical name)?

Mine is an SDR DVR120, should be the same as the DVR40 though, and uses a standard 2 prong power cord. Radio Shack might be your best bet.

Power cords also available from TiVo here (http://www.tivo.com/2.7.1.asp).

There are called polarised figure-8 cord. Sometimes they are called Panasonic style. Any place that sells electronic accessories should have that sort of power cord.

I bought all mine that didn't come with something, from walk-in B&M stores.

Technicially it is an NEMA 1-15P to IEC 60320-SS7. Radio Shack part number should be Model: 61-2878 Catalog #: 61-2878.

I wonder why they sell them without the power cord ?

Stolden units ? Grabbed out of someone's house and ran ?

It's not like the power cord wears out or falls apart.

Some of the open box units sold by B&M stores didn't include accessories including a power cord. I suspect at least some of the ebay sellers bought the units from places like BB. It's possible some sellers have the unit installed in a wall unit and the seller doesn't want to take the time to get the power cord out.

Stolen units would still be active or have outstanding balances and would not be usable.

Can you report a unit as "Stolen" to DTV? Would they then instruct the new "owner" to plug it into a phone line so the call can be traced.

I know those cheap ass bastards would never consider spending a plumb nickel to help out a customer, but it would be really cool if they would.
