View Full Version : Could dying hard drive invoke mode 0 without user involvement?

Ok , last week after a forced re boot the menu's all went strange on my standard 40g UN MODIFIED Tivo. This week I am hearing a lot more noise from the hard drive and a lot of 'seeking' when buffering live tv. I am looking forward to purchasing a new larger pre configured drive soon (but going away next week so fingers crossed it lasts until I get back).

However in the last few days I noticed a distinct improvement in the picture quality on my LCD tv. Over the last few nights I have noticed the occasional flash of white blocks either in the bottom middle or bottom right. Sort of like a few Tetris blocks. It looks like how I imagine the mode 0 side effect would look ( but I haved never seen a hacked box ).

Is this a symptom of dying hard drive and/or has my system corrupted itself to change the standard recording bit rate...

Either way I belive I will be placing an order for new drive and poss cachcard in a couple of weeks.

I'm gonna say no (which probably means it's yes, 'cos I know nothing) to the inital question.

IME mode 0 "flashes" are not as you describe, I think you've got the position right, but I would describe it more as a "horizontal lightning flash" although I suppose as it's not something that has been designed, it could present itself in any number of ways.

I agree that the effect you have described doesn't sound like a white flash. Much more likely to be the drive, IMHO.
