No phone jack; always get the warning. Any way to stop that?
Guide data always up to date.

The warning is just that and has no effect on the operation of your DTiVo. Also your guide data comes from the satellite.
As far as stopping the messages there are a few choices.
1. Let the DTiVo call in.
2. Hack your DTiVo and add the fake call hack.
3. If it is a series 1 add a turbonet card and connect it to your home network.
4. Connect the serial port of the DTiVo to the serial port of a computer running XP or win 2000 and enable PPP over serial.
5. Completely ignore the messages. You do not even need to read them or delete them but if you do not delete them after some time there will be so many that if you go into messages you DTiVo will hang. (Just do not go into messages to avoid this)

Darn 2 second Smeek :( (I did not get 3,4,5 though not a 100% smeek)
If you have a series 2 DirecTiVo then you have two choices:
Plug in the phone jack and let it make phone calls.
or hack your DirecTiVo. Using the Zipper (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=265929) is probably the easiest.

Actually it can be a problem. If you choose to not let the unit make the calls, the logs can get filled up and it may start to exhibit odd behavior such as locking up on you where you need to pull the plug to get it unlocked.
