View Full Version : Show ended early and tivo stopped recording?

I had a show set to tape earlier this week. It was a two hour show, and when I looked in the playlist it listed the duration as 1:37 (Partial). I assumed Tivo must have rebooted or something while recording, but was curious as to why it didn't immediately start recording when it came back on. It always does that if it reboots during recording, and it never takes 20 minutes to reboot. But when I checked, I discovered that the program ended right about the point where Tivo stopped recording - the credits were rolling. Lucky break or does Tivo now know when a program ends, even if the guide says it has another 20 minutes?

Unless it was scheduled to stop early, Tivo would not pick up the early stop.

That has been my experience over 3 years.

The partial is tough to explain though.

does Tivo now know when a program ends, even if the guide says it has another 20 minutes?Did the recording start at the beginning of the show? Or at some earlier point, like 23 minutes earlier?

Was this a scheduled recording, or a recording you started after the show had begun? The latter would explain the odd timing since it would begin a half-hour ahead of whenever you hit record, but end at the end of the program.

Unless it's public TV, not too many programs end at 37 minutes after an hour.

I'm an idiot - I finally watched the entire recording this morning. About 1:15 into it, it suddenly skipped, and did it two more times before the end. There must have been bad weather or something when it recorded. I'm so sorry I wasted everyone's time!No problem at all. Usually there's a transparent space on the bar that appears briefly at the bottom of the screen when that happens.
