My phone modem died on the board and l replaced it with an external US robotics modem and a 9thtee seral connector kit (tivomodemrepair dot htm). That worked fine.

My drives died so l used the PTVupgrade CD to create a new 250 gig drive with LBA48 kernel support. That also worked a dream.

The issue is that now the TiVo cannot make the 1st call outbound to set the system up.

l did configure the dialing prefix correctly, and the TiVo version installed via the PTVupgrade disk is at least 3.0 (or so the site says), so l don't know why it's not working.

A comment on their(PTVupgrade) site said to disable bash via the serial cable, as that may be conflicting with the modem but l cannot get the tivo connected to my PC using the weakknees/9thtee serial cable and my Win2k hyperterminal.

Is there any special configurations needed for hyperterminal to work?

Is there some way l can mount the drive via knoppix or a TiVo upgrade disk and edit the file l need to?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sup Alan,
I'm pretty new to this but, if your not seeing any guide data just call1800-directtv once you get the automated voice make sure you choose existing and and type in 721 two times intill you hear something about configuring by the time you get off the phone you it will be okay..
The only thing i have done for serial is making the cable i'll try working on fedora to see if i can get something

Since ozguy's unit is a standalone unit and has nothing to do with DirecTV, why exactly do you feel that calling DirecTV will help any??? Also where did the OP say they were not getting any guide data???
